So it's looking like $500+ for RX Vega.

Update: Bought a 1070

Is it worth waiting (a month or so) for vega for nvidia price drops or should I just pick up a 1070 now? Will the 1080 possibly be affordable by then?

Depends at what price they will release Vega. But I don't expect price drop of more than 10% of current prices.

I find it highly unlikely the 1070 will drop in price by any considerable margin when Vega hits. Maybe +/- $30. If you can wait, then wait. But if you have both the urge and the money, then there's no reason not to grab the 1070. AMD will likely fit Vega accordingly in the price gaps that Nvidia's been leaving.

You really think that's all it'll be?

Late generation prices usually don't fluctuate much until retailers start emptying stock to make room for new products. There's no reason for a significant price drop on Pascal GPUs until Volta is ready to hit.

Just get a 1070.

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

as sad as it is a think vega is taking too long and unless it's really good will be shadowed by Volta later this year or early next year

Keep in mind that Volta will be pretty darn expensive since it will be using HBM ...

It's true that Vega will be competing more with Titan line up, but they could also make cut down versions of it, to compete with GTX 1070 and GTX 1080. But right now that's only guessing. Not sure if there are any official news that they will be releasing only 1 version of Vega GPU lineup.

Only the Titan X should use HBM2, the other cards are supposedly using GDDR6 no?

Not sure about that.

GDDR6? Didn't even know that was the plan in next few years.

The TITAN X (Volta) is the only card that supposedly will feature the very expensive HBM2, the other cards will feature GDDR6 which is enhancement from GDDR5x ^^

im pretty sure NVIDIA wont drop the prices on their cards unless VEGA is amazing and AMD places it at a stupidly low pricepoint

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

vega is not out until the end of the year. That's all you need to know I guess, since at the moment there is no info on its performance.

Yeah man Ryzen is shit compared to the i5. Oh and the 290? Terrible card. Why would I want to spend $100 less for the same performance from Nvidia? I buy PCs because I LIKE to burn my money /s
