NAS connecting as network location, not network drive

EunSoo

Hello! I am having a problem where my nas is connecting to my computer as a Network Location even though I go through the Map Network Drive setup. While I can still access files on it, some programs especially Backup don't recognize the drive as something it can use. I can assign it a drive letter though, but it appears under network locations in My PC.

I probably should've said this earlier but this problem only occurred after I reinstalled windows. The problem is that my nas is showing up as a network location, not a drive. so ofc some programs won't like that. I'm trying to see what I can do to make it a network drive again.

yeah, it does that, which is weird but still pops up as a network location.

that's actually normal since mapped network drives aren't local volumes

I have a similar issue. I can set up a network location using the built in wizard but it just shows up as a folder not a drive. I'd like to be able to read the volume size from the hard drive menu.

have you tried to add it manually?

take my example, the drive letter A:\ is mapped to a network share

when the programs asks for a path just type A:\whatever - change it to match your needs

sounds unlikely. are there any particular settings that have to be done to get Windows to work with a network drive? Maybe when I reset windows it reset those settings?

I can get OBS and Premiere pro to access and save files and project files from it. I'm using the Windows built-in backup and that just has a pretty dropdown menu to select what drive to use and my nas just isn't showing up.

do you have to have win10pro to back up to a network drive? I had win10pro before I reinstalled but now I have home for some reason

windows backup for network drives needs pro or edu or enterprise or ultimate editions.

If you want it to work as a local drive, use iscsi.

ok, I had pro before I reinstalled Windows. I'm going to see if I can figure out what happened to it.

Ha, I didn't know that was an option I had used "Add a Network Location" in the right click menu.

Map network drive worked great. It's a hard drive with a drive letter and I can see the volume capacity. Thanks.

Now why you're not getting the same result...I breezed trough the conversation I missed. You said you had pro but "somehow" you're now on home. I'd doubt that to be a feature specific for pro but if it means anything I'm on pro and as I previously stated your instructions just worked fine for me.

until I get it to work, is there any backup software that you would recommend that's free?
