Do I need to upgrade my PSU?

fsm01

Here is my current build:

Processor: FX - 6350

GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 7770 Ghz

PSU: Corsair CX500

I am planning to upgrade my GPU and currently looking at the ASUS 1060 STRIX 6GB. If I make this upgrade, will my current PSU be ok or would that need to be upgraded too? If the power supply needs to be upgraded as well then I need to look into a cheaper GPU option.

Would get a better quality PSU.

Hmmm. If I need to get a new PSU which will cost roughly $100 then I only have about $150 left for a new GPU which puts me in the 1050ti range? Do you think that's the best option given my budget?

I highly disagree about upgrading the PSU. The 1060 is a 120w card... you will be fine. I promise. You really really do not need to get a higher output PSU

unless you take more risk to lose your pc parts because of poor power delivery... The wattage is fine, but not the psu

Remember to quote me (or someone else), otherwise we won't going to recieve your answers...

When was the last time you saw real evidence of a "crappy" name brand Corsair 80+ Bronze PSU cause the death of a computer component? Desktops in offices run for a decade with far shodier components. Hell, I've ran computers fully outfitted with GPU's under 100% load for years on end doing citizen science using generic 350w PSU's that have lamp cords soldered to the power input with their power leads shorted out so I could run multiple PSUs at once... and never had any problems. Telling him he has to replace his Corsair CX PSU is a bit paraniod if you ask me.

That PSU isn't any higher quality than the one he already has... he's fine. He doesn't need a new PSU.

cx is really meh. You could get a 520w m12ii for around $60 or so that is much better.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

It's only 100 Watts more.. Thats why I recommended it to him. He wanted a better PSU.. Or Im just recommending. Just to be safe otherwise, go to coolermaster's website : http://www.coolermaster.com/power-supply-calculator/
