So i was at a friends house and i spilled water on the rig he was building.... luckily it was off and i told him not to turn it on... Is there any way to make sure that it is safe to turn on? Thank you for your help...

Dry it out or ideally displace the water using 99% isopropyl alcohol to remove any moisture.

Pour some rice on it so asians will come to fix it at night.

It works but there's a side effect of the uncooked rice absorbing moisture.

OOPS!  Dry it out with the girlfriends hair dryer for a couple of days minimum.  That should do it.  Don't forget you got some major butt kissing to do because of the mistake.

Make sure it's not on heat or it WILL melt some components, especially fans.

Maybe a couple of mins not long at all, you can even pour it over I would however take off the cooler when doing that to ensure it gets properly to the PCB components if your pouring. Just let it dry at least a day for it to evaporate and remove any remaining moisture and inspect it for any signs of corrosion.

Do not use salt that corrodes metal.

ok. is there anything i should take note of when i soak it. any parts on the mobo that could trap the liquid?

Under heatsinks such as around the VRM and such it could get trapped more easily. As long as the board is soaked and lightly agitated it should displace anything left under chips or components on the board, just be sure to dry it out for at least a day to ensure all the alcohol and any possible remaining water is gone before powering up.

Luckily it was water and not something sugary. People who custom water cool work with this risk (though we use distilled water not tap water) let it dry out for a few days and check if their's any noticeable residue anywhere. If not it should be fine.

I went a few hours without power, and this was the first thing I saw when the WiFi came back up.

I missed you too, Internet. :D

Sorry if I came across a little crass there.  Just trying to shed a little humor on a bad situation.  Actually, spilling water inside a PC is something that I have probably done in the past while still learning about these machines.  My sincerest apologies if I offended anyone.

NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WET SALT WILL KILL IT DEAD. The salt water will be highly conductive, and corrosion will quicly form also there would be no going back.

I have washed video cards with soap and hot water with no propblem as long as everything is dried. Lay it in the sun a couple of days to dry out. There is nothing to worry about as long as it is dry before applying power.
