Laptop for college

Going to college and need suggestions for laptops that I should purchase. I would like to keep it under $2000 so keep that in mind. I want a laptop with a 4k resolution and an i7, and I'm going to bring my desktop with me so the laptop doesn't need a 1080 or anything crazy. Need something where I can do school work and watch movies, but also play some games if I don't feel like sitting at a desk.

I would highly recommend against a laptop with a 4K screen. The battery will die faster and it will be hard for your GPU to run at that res in a laptop.

I use both and for me I think MacOS is better for the day to day. More stable, more friendly, and more pretty

But I can also not spend $500-1000 more than I would with an msi or dell xps just so I can get the apple logo on my laptop.

Well ideally you would be using MacOS and an accompanying iPhone with it. 

 

With a Mac you are paying for the OS, the integration with other Apple stuff, the design, and then the name. 

 

The biggest factor will be battery life and that is something I recommend you look into before deciding on any machine.

I agree but thats why I would get like a Dell or MSI (whatever brand) thats around $1000 because even if you are going to get a "gaming" laptop still, i recommend against it, you want at least some quality specs

The xps 15 with a 4k screen is actually only $100 less ($2100 vs $2200). Although the XPS 15 also has a 1050 (which I personally consider a con) and a 7700HQ instead of a 4820HQ.

Ehh, I personally can't get over the look of those things. 

 

From the outside they look nice a premium but once you open that semi-carbon fiber texture and cheap looking keyboard is a major turn off.

Bruh, I am sry to sound like this but you sound like your trying to convince him to join the dark side. Plus he has stated multiple times that he does not like mac books or macOS because of the OS and the price. Some people just dont like Apple products, sry to break it to you

Well yeah and some people don't like Club Sandwiches but I don't get upset about it 

 

I went through a wired PC phase. 

 

I started off with a PowerMac G4 which carried me into 2011 (shocking but never really needed a computer till then) and I then got a 2011 iMac since I was used to Macs already. Then in 2015 I built a PC (see signature) and now in 2017 I got a MBP. 

 

I feel the call to MacOS everyday. I can't get enough of it.

No but I see no reason to. 

 

The OS has less than 2% of the marketshare and there are hardly any programs for it. I need something with the library of MacOS and Windows 10. 

 

Also Linux doesn't work flawlessly with my iOS devices 

 

Maybe if Linux can SMS text through my phone, but until then. 

 

I'm a Mac! (Windows is good too but I prefer MacOS for everything other than gaming)

You'll get no argument from me, I love macOS and use it 99% of the time. The only time I use anything else is when I'm required to use Linux for programming or Windows for gaming. If macOS had decent gaming support I'd hackintosh my desktop so quickly because I strongly dislike Windows. I also wouldn't even consider a non-Apple laptop at this point in time -- Apple would have to REALLLY fuck something up for me to go with something else.

You can also disable that in System preferences.
