Silence optimized case

Hello.

I'll replace my laptop with an Desktop PC and since I want to have a silent environment when I'm working I decided to get a semi passive PSU and GPU. But now I asked myself how big the difference is between an silence optimized case like the Define R5 and a case which isn't. Anybody here replaced a non silence optimized case with a something like the R5? I would really like to know the difference.

Thanks!

Having built several dead-silent systems the case really doesn't matter much. The best use for a silent-optimized case I've seen is for a system with a lot of desktop hard drives that rattle and thus the rubber dampening for them is useful, or in a system with coil whine which thick foam on the side panels quells a lot.

Better airflow is what keeps components quieter and the Define S has airflow in spades while also having foam and rubber and all that good stuff. I'd recommend it.

I don't want this case. I don't like how it looks. But I just watched a video about the Pure Base 600 TG.

Silent and Looks are 2 keywords that don't match, you have to sacrifice one or the other. The TG sidepanel does not have sound dampening material.

shouldn't be too much difference in the way it performs ;)

Had a Define R4 (they're practically all the same with minor variation) and still managed to have a "loud" system back in the day. Your components matter way more than the case. Pick one you like and use pwm fans at low rpm.

They can match. Thats why I talked about the Define R5. I like how it looks and it's silence.

I know. But the question is about the difference in silence between a TG and a non TG case.

I think the quality of the case is much more important. I started with some cheap CM K-series case. It was awful and always loud, the metal seemed to amplify vibrations. Now with my H440 (silence focused) I think the difference is more that it's built solidly, and the fans will always make a much bigger difference Han the case, since they're what's making the noise

That's an F in the profile pic

I really like this case but I will put the computer on the floor. And a cube case on the floor next to me would be impractical and look strange. :(

Only some days ago I build a PC with one of my friends. He bought an H440 V2. We used the 3 included 120mm fans in the front and placed the included 140mm fan at the top. Thes were controlled by the fan hub. In addition to that we added a be quiet! silent wings 3 PWM 140mm fan at the back. The CPU was cooled by a dark rock 3. And together with a semi passive PSU and GPU the system was very quiet.

I just bought a Define S. It was on sale for about 70€. Thanks for your recommendation!
