Thinking of selling 4930k for R5 1600

Quite a lot more AFAIK.

I'm not 100% sure, but the NH-D15 is widely regarded as basically the same cooling performance as a good AIO, so you might get 15c drops in temps, but don't quote me on that.

Thanks for your replies. I'm going to stick with my 4930k. Biggest reason I wanted to switch was because 140W vs 65W TDP, and 1866MHz vs 3000MHz. Guess I will wait for new launches on CPUs from both teams :)

I think that you can OC your DDR3 to 2133+

unless you live a 3rd world sh*t hole, the price for replacing your rig for the tdp doesnt outdo upgrading the cooler and Overclocking the hell out it.

As a 5820K owner myself who considered swapping back to AMD  until my brother who has a similar rig to myself added a kraken x62 and pushed his over clocks up to the quiet limit. It worked that well that i bought a x62 myself when i ordered my 1080ti

I wouldn't. For $320 I would get a new Ryzen 5 1600 system, instead of a used 4930K system. ;)

You underestimate the 24GB of RAM.

16GB of DDR4 costs $100

R5 1600 costs $220

B350 motherboard costs $80

That's now $400.

Idea of upgrading to a better cooler is interesting indeed. I don't like AiOs, which is why I added the NH-D15 in the PCpartpicker list. I guess the D15 is the strongest air cooler out there (correct me if I'm wrong)? I wonder what temperature differences I would get from going to 212 EVO to for example NH-D15 at same overclocks, case, setup etc... Probably 6-8 celsius I would assume o.O

DH-15 or darkrock pro 3 (looks nicer). i am also moving away from AIO soon, i am afraid of AIOs leaking.

I probably can, but I've never tried RAM overclocking before. Tried to simply switch from 1866 to 2133 in the drop down menu in BIOS, but naturally resulted in no boot. I have to change timings/voltage, and as mentioned, never done that before -_- Would be nice to push it to 2133 though

Main:  1650 v2   @ 4,6GHz   -   X79 Deluxe                -   GTX 1080 @ 2000MHz   -   24GB DDR3 @ 2400MHz / CL10

Side:   i7-4790K @ 4,5GHz   -   Maximus 7 Hero        -   GTX 1070 @ 2114MHz    -  16GB DDR3 @ 2666MHz / CL12

Yes and comes with a warranty and you can upgrade to an 8 core whenever you want, I would spend $400 on the 1600 system instead of $320 on a 4930K system.

They are expensive, but I don't think that anyone would invest in an Ivy Bridge system if he can build a Ryzen 5 system for about the same price ;)

You still get more PCI-lanes , more RAM channels and considering the 1600 costs 220$, a 350$ total budget would leave you enough for a b350 board or a low end x370 . X79 only has high end boards , and you have ram  ( and lots of it ).

Plus , not even considering the rationality of investing into x79 ; an x79 board goes at LEAST 160$ , with a 4930k starting at ~250$ , not even taking RAM into account . That's plenty to break even.

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

Yeah DH15 is probably the best air cooler that doesn't sound like a jet engine out there :P

If silence is more your thing the Dark Rock Pro 3 is quieter while only a few degrees hotter but the D15 is still excellent.

the point isn't that buying into x79 vs ryzen is a good idea. The point is that OP could potentially break even by selling his stuff.

So i upgrade my personal rigs pretty often because i am a tech junky. selling your current rig will net you nearly or a little over the cost of the update you propose if you work at it, and will result in a small gain gain in performance gaming and productivity. This is closer to a side grade imo with the advantage of once again having new parts and warranties and relieving that junky itch. If it makes ya feel good man do it and don't look back

I have both and the difference is negligible.  But you can get the 1700 or the 1700x but that raise the top all but the same while the 1700 is still the same top as the 1600.

The 1700 has been selling as low as 305 shipped new.

However I'm expecting used 1800x cups to  hit the market when the 12 core comes out.
