The guy is deliberately making Apple seem bad for making an app run on their latest version only when his device is capable of running iOS 10.3.1

But if I'm running iOS 9, then I shouldn't HAVE to update to iOS 10.3.1 to use the Apple Store. It should just work on iOS 9. If it does already work like that and this is just a case of 10.3 vs. 10.3.1 then it's not as bad (although it still shouldn't be the case).

It is bad... Because it did... It updates ON ITS OWN to a version that can no longer be used until you update your iOS.

This is literally tantamount to Microsoft being like yo... that thing you use... word... Yeah we only support it on Windows 10 now, so install that or never use it again.

If you are on iOS 9 the iOS 9 version of that app will continue working unless the application is like Facebook or THE APPLE STORE (aka web based) meaning it can update through its servers on the developers end and block access that way.

If an application requires a newer firmware than the one you are on, you must update to be able to use it. The Application cannot update on an older firmware if the version it updates to requires a newer firmware that the device cannot support.

They have been doing significantly better with iOS 10 and 9. Look at the iPhone 5 and iPad 4 on iOS 10. On the other hand Samsung have gives you no updates plus a bloated UI for you to enjoy!

ios 7 killed ip4/4s/ipad 2/3

ios 8 killed 4s/ipad air

ios 9 beat the shit out of 4s and air IMO, same with ip6+ (plus only, rip 1gb ram)

ios 10 is doing good

source: i have a 4 on ios 7, an ipad air that has been through 7/8/9 and i know the 4s is a dead horse; apple discord tells me that a ip6+ on 9/10 is horrible.

1. I don't use iOS anymore, so it doesn't directly affect me (only my general consumer relatives that are too tech illiterate to know better and force me to help fix their issues).

2. You better have the exact same opinion about Windows updates and people who got fucked by "opt-out" Windows "upgrades".

I shouldn't have to read the change logs every time I go to update one of the three hundred apps I have installed. That's ridiculous. I don't care if a game wants to see my bank accounts, let it, just don't expect me to filter through hundreds of apps to determine if it will work (especially if I'm not tech-savy enough to know if it's compatible).

At the end of the day, Apple supports their devices a lot longer than a given Android phone manufacturer.

And I'd rather use a phone that is up to date than one with a glaring security hole that my manufacturer refuses to fix because reasons.

reasons why i still use ios

1. long lifespan

3. great standby battery life (has been improved in android, but when i bought my iphone it was shit)

There are absolutely 0 forced updates on any Apple product.

If you refuse to update your device, Apple will not force your device to update. You will simply be losing out on the features of being up to date, like any other software.

Note though, in most cases now Apple has implemented a "install most recent compatible version of the application", which didn't used to exist at all. BUT if you uninstall an app (like youtube) and you want it back, well you are fucked because it doesn't allow such things.

EX: This is what should happen...

holy shit you have a ip4 (4s maybe?)

jailbreak that shit and fix it :) (assuming this is your main phone)

fix all your problems, even the app ones.

There are absolutely 0 forced updates on any Apple product.

If you refuse to update your device Apple will not force your device to update.

END OF STORY

every time you wake up your phone, it nags you to update

eventually, you'll accidentally click ok and it'll update while you're asleep

also it keeps downloading the update package, wasting 1gb+ on your phone, and if you delete it its back in a few hours.

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

While true, if I update an app to the "latest version", then I expect it to work on the current OS that is installed on the product. If the latest version isn't compatible, then it shouldn't accept an update to that version (via a manual update or auto update).

It asks you once a day to set a time or "remind you later" (as in, the next day), but it's honestly not that easy to accidentally update it. Although, I do wish they would get rid of that annoying message.

hit the power button if you ever get the message and it will go away and will not show up for a long time.

iOS updates only auto download when locked and connected to wifi.....so don't do that if you don't want them to download.

You can install the Apple TV profile to prevent iOS updates if you don't want to do any of those.

I don't know about you but there might be difference between a third party rom and a official carrier update.

I've had stock ROMS behave more unpredictably than a third party ROM.

what apple tv profile? i need it for future reference if i get stuck on stock ios

deleting the update helps for a few hours.. but still, it downloads updates all the time (its not like your phone is unlocked all the time and never connected to wifi, is it? mine is mostly left off for a few hours while connected to wifi)

the last time i've received that message (~7 months ago; 9.3.3 pangu) it kept nagging me to update to 9.3.4 every time i opened up my phone. probably an exaggeration in my brain, but it was annoying as hell.
