*UPDATED* Shadow Brokers dumps most severe NSA exploits yet

I would rather update and only worry about zero-days instead of refusing to update and worry about every exploit found ever.

As if windows update blocks all or even most of the exploits, also the fact the exploits here were not designed for windows 10 tells you they almost certainly have another exploit that wasn't released by this group. The simple fact is that if it accepts use input it can be hacked, if it is connected to the internet it can be hacked remotely so backups are key regardless

Oh boy, you have no clue. Defense isn't about a single solid wall. It's about having many walls to protect you against attacks. Keeping software up to date are one of those walls.

But but guys....

We need backdoors in encryption technology so the government can use it for protecting us from terrorists.

They would never do wrong with it, I swear!

I'm aware but am simply pointing out the OS security is essentially a collapsed wall and that blocking things before getting to that point and having a backup if they manage to get to that point are essential since the OS security will normally fail and thus is mostly meaningless unless it involves blocking hacking of bios or firmware

I'm not saying to rely on it alone obviously, but there isn't a reason to ignore it. None of your walls will be completely solid, that's why you have many.

I really wish that Linux had storage spaces like windows does and allows other users on the pc to access my second drive when its been mount by another people without needing to mess about with permissions.

once Linux has these two features ill move there full time.

You don't even need updates, most of the exploits were easily blocked by a firewall.

Shall I program something that checks automatically for things like this to add to my list of "Why keeping exploits for security is dumb"?

Is it actually hard to find or write these exploits? I ask just out of curiosity because I can not even program.

It requires a lot of code analysis and lots of fuzz testing (entering random strings).
