Is there a way to turn off thumbnails on YouTube?

Guest Darth Revan

So is there a way to turn off the thumbnails on youtube? More specifically, specifically Linus's thumbnails since they're idiotic.

I know Linus said they are only doing this because it attracts more views, but honestly I don't give a fuck about their views. Those thumbnails need to stop.

And since he won't stop, I have to ask is there a way maybe with an adblocker or something to just turn off those thumbnails or block them entirely?

if i recall, some regions actually get served a different "version" of youtube that skins down the non-video content to a few KB, maybe OP can move to said locations :P

if he codes it himself maybe, but i seriously doubt there's an actively maintained project for replacing thumbnails on youtube.

its a freaking snail performance wise tho...

it's made by the original opera folks, they're very good at making a functional browser, they're not very good at resource management.

Yeah, I only use it for this forum and YouTube, nothing else. I use Firefox for huge file downloads, and other super taxing thing you would do in a browser (I have nothing)...

It's based on Chromium...

Yeah, I would still not remove Firefox, as I still use it for some task.

i cant explain why it's that slow, but GOD does it crawl compared to other browsers. on my media center (dont imagine much, J1900 :P) the difference between vivaldi and chrome is quite literally between unusable stutters playing video, and smooth 1080p stream. i feel like vivaldi has "just slightly too many layers on top".

LOL, I'm the opposite. Chrome considerably lags on 1080P, but not Firefox and Vivaldi. I guess I'm unlucky;). I gave up on Chrome 5 months ago, and I am glad. Of course, it's preference.

chrome.. is a rollercoaster.. i'm actually surprised by how well it's running on the shitbox. that said, i'm also quite "religious" about keeping clean house in terms of chrome plugins.

I only have 3 Chrome plugins, Adblock, Adblock Plus and Dark theme for YouTube. I love the third one.

And I disable one and two in the forum and at subscribers.47e4b780-c10e-4a4c-ba0e-9c684c94f237.png.c985701c63019163159668e4b0b29c3e.png

I don't see the problem with the thumbnails. Sure they can be weird, but you only look at them for a few seconds.

If you really want all YouTube thumbnails gone do this to your hosts file (Windows is C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc):

127.0.0.1 i.ytimg.com
