CX450M or RM650x

WAR Corporation

Hello...

In 2/3 months I'm gonna build my first gaming pc and I'm not sure if I should get the RM650x or CX450M.

WATTAGE: Both PSU have the wattage I need. The GTX 1060 only requires 400w and the RM650x is 650w and the CX450M is 450w.

The RM650x is a tier 1 power supply but the CX450M is a tier 3. The RM650x costs 118€ and the CX450M costs 63€. Is the 55€ difference in price going to make much difference in performance? I can fit the RM650x in my budget.

The components I'll probably buying are:

i5 7600k

MSI Gaming h270 M3 (I know, H not-overclockable motherboard and K overclockable processor xD)

OCZ Trion 150 240gb

Asus Turbo GTX 1060 6gb

Asus Monitor

@deXxterlab97 In their website it says that the CX450M should be used for basic system upgrades. That's why I was kinda unsure..

That's a suitable description for their old green labelled CX PSUs but their new grey labelled CXM PSUs are much higher in quailty where I'm tempted to say it's kinda wrong? :D

Not like your system consumes that much power anyway

Oh gotcha. Also is that a good system anyway? My pc is a laptop which has a n2830.. yee. Also I'm gonna be doing game development (already do in this one but crashes alot and is slow). Also gonna be playing at 1080p (decent graphics) cs:go, minecraft with shaders, rise of the tomb raider... etc

Yep, it will be a great system for gaming, 1080p@ultra 60fps should be izi pizi (if you don't turn MSAA too high).

Get the CX450M. The newer grey label ones are straight up solid, and even my green label units have taken a beating (between hot summers, my CX750M running a hefty OC on a G3258 + a 7950 and GTX 480, and my CX430M having a fan fail and running passively with internal temps nearing the 60C mark).

Well as a CX450M owner, it does get a bit loud as you game on it. It's louder than my (admittedly very silent) MSI RX 480 and the fan takes a bit to spin down. Not to mention it has cheaper caps than the RMx and "only" 5 year warranty versus 10 (or 8 I think) on the RMx. So if you can afford that, get it. You'll like the fan-off feature as it will allow your whole PC to be fanless at idle.

Of course there are a few good alternatives you can look for out there. EVGA's G2 or G3 are similar to the RMx and may cost less, same goes for anything on Tier 1 in the list, and even a lot of T2s will have idle fan-off.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

@Energycore The store I'm buying the parts doesn't have EVGA products :(. This is my pc so far: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/dLsY7h

I'm kinda unsure doe... I can fit the RM650x in the build but the total cost of the build will be 1010€ vs 955€. Since I'm 15, I do not work and I've been saving up for almost an entire year I guess I can buy a cheaper GPU like the RX 480 to bring the cost a little bit down. xD

How much is the RM550x?

Can you provide some links to stores you can buy from so we can see what's available to you?

The CX450M would be a good budget unit for your system though.

For unlocked CPUs, personally I will go for tier1/2 PSUs. Therefore I choose the RMx.
Btw is there a RM550x option? 550W is more than enough.
Edit: Didn't see you have H270 mobo, the CX-M will work fine.

None of the Corsair line up is not made by Corsair. This is true for EVGA as well. The newer CX*50M are good budget units, and it's certainly better than the group-regulated EVGA units that's in the same price range (the B1, W1, N1 unit) in respect to quality and electrical performance.
