Okay,

I am sick of windows 10 and all of its telemetry , Linux seems like a good alternative! the problem is I want to run games , I heard of a program called WINE,

Basically , Can I run games using WINE (DX 11 Minimum for me) and is there driver support for Linux Ubuntu?

Or maybe go back to windows 7. I think you can get what you want from there. And considering your hardware, my suggestion isn't even trolling.

I am trying to LEAVE the windows universe. it pisses me off with the random ass restarts and at this point Linux is a place I want to go for coding anyway

By default DirectX isn't supported in Linux, but OpenGL and vulkan are! So there is atleast that for games with linux ports.

For games running under DirectX11, you're potentially out of luck, Wine may support DirectX 11 but I'm uncertain as to whether or not it is fully implemented and debugged as of yet.

What games do you play?

I make games and stuff in my spare time.

Be cautioned, as a lot of developments software (For coding) can build and compile for Linux but not actually run on Linux. (I. E. : the unity game engine can built and compile for Linux, but you can't actually run the unity editor on Linux. There is just no support for it.)

I get it, I really do. I considered it too, once, a long time ago.

But if you want to piss off Microsoft, you should downgrade back to windows 7. They try to "force" people to use their newest platform, so they can mine (and sell) lots of data. By refusing to use windows 10, and by sticking to the older platform, you get a real voice. (amongst millions, but still a voice)

At your random ass restarts... It all depends on how you configure your windows.

Windows 7, SP1 with some services and registry mods and whatnot:

Yeah, GTA V and Overwatch are both unable to run on Wine

CS:GO has a verified gold rating on the WineHQ site though

GTA V doesn't have a linux port, and I am aware, I used to use Steam to run Robocraft on Linux.

Although, your reply did make me google, I didn't know CS:GO got a native linux port.

It would make sense for a game developed by Valve to run on a program made by Valve lol

I advise try Linux Mint instead.  Looks a whole lot better and the install is smoother.

Best way to see if you like a Linux distro, install on a USB stick and try the distro out.

Or, like others stated.  Go back to W7.  I'm still on W7 myself.

To my understanding Steam should work under Ubuntu and SteamOS, both are officially supported by Valve. If you go to the Steam Store it should show all titles with Linux support. For those with out Linux support you could run in Windows. Just install Windows as a second OS and only use it to play those games that cant be played on Linux.

While you could use Windows 7, support for Windows 7 will be dropped in 2020, also they already dropped support for newer CPU's.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Try 8.1, I haven't had a single "random ass restart" on it.

Otherwise, you can always dualboot.

If you're deadset on Linux, go for it, see if it works for you.

PlayOnLinux and WINE are a good start if you want to switch. Though I would personally suggest Mint over Ubuntu. I personally play around with it in a virtual machine once in a while and PlayOnLinux is a nice addition to WINE. (Install the latest versions through the terminal, the synaptic manager has old outdated versions... That's the thing I hate the most about Linux, the god damn terminal)
