A wild Radeon 8990 appears. Or does it?

Was casually browsing passmark when I came across this:

Somebody has been testing a graphics card that may or may not be an actual 8990 in the past day, using Passmark's PerformanceTest software suite. This suite only tests compute, OpenGL and DirectX9 (to my knowledge) so while the test results aren't that important, the fact that there is a sample of this now is intriguing.

 

Whoever did this could just have altered the BIOS to make a card register that name, but it could also be the real thing. Who knows?

 

I for one hope that AMD (or Nvidia) does not give up on dual GPU cards, especially with the growing love for the Mini-ITX form factor. I for one will not go back to ATX, so they've gained at least one customer for their dual gpu solutions in me over the past year.

Seems strange how it just beats a 770. This doesn't seem very legit.

 

passmark's benchmark only tests compute, OpenGL and DirectX9, there are MANY seeming inconsistencies on their ranks for the untrained eye, but it's actually plausible. Especially considering how driver-sensitive dual GPU cards are.

8xxx cards were just 7xxx cards rebranded for OEM's

 

They were, but they never mentioned an 8990, and it never officially existed until (perhaps) now.

Edit: nevermind, I see that they snuck the 8990 into their OEM line up, silly me. Disregard this thread.

I laugh! Yes its fake or OEM, but c'mon it can't even come close to a 780's performance.

Im saying that in their performance testing the 8990 can't, so yes.

but again we're taking its appearance with a grain of salt
