WD Blue or Black for save games and play?

Hi,

I need a 1TB at least to save my games and play through it.

My 250GB SSD is not enought so far.

 

Which one do you recommend, which one is faster/better for this situation? (best load times).

No, but WD Blacks are also more reliable....

It depends how much you care, if you've ever been mad about slow load times on you machine than yes.

The Black is faster, but for the price you could just get a 240GB SSD for some more games or a 2TB Seagate Barracuda.

Get the Blue then. You get double the capacity and similar speeds.

If you want quicker load times get an SSHD.

WD Black has a better controller vs the Blue. If you're playing games like CS:GO, go with the Blue. If you're playing open-world games, get the Black for the better controller.

Get the Black. Use a benchmark program to find the proper short-stroke partition sizes and set the faster to the open games (Watch Dogs, Witcher, etc) and the slower to the likes of CS:GO and BF/CoD.

I've tried both, no significant differences in real-world game performance. Returned the 1TB SSHD for a 2TB normal one

Right because you can't have your save data on to your primary SSD/HDD with Dropbox/other sync while having the game data on the new hard drive.

No, because the WD blue 4TB would only have a spin speed of 5400RPM while the 2TB WD black will have a spin speed of 7200RPM which is going to have a slight effect on access times (and I've done some actual tests between a 5400RPM hard drive and a 7200RPM hard drive and the 7200RPM hard drive beat the 5400RPM in load tests every time).

 

If you want a 4TB drive I'd suggest the toshiba x300 as it would give near 4TB WD Black performance (according to the specifications they have the same spin speed and cache) for around (according to the prices I've seen, so do your own investigations to see if the same is true elsewhere) the price of a 4TB WD blue.
