Ryzen 5ghz rumors?

What happened to all those rumblings of Ryzen doing 5ghz on air?

There are such ramblings for every upcoming cpu it seems.

they also happened with skylake, how many people running a skylake 5GHz on air?

 

it's a combination of getting a REALLY good bin, probably low ambient temperatures (note: the lower the ambient temps, the more temperature delta you have between the chip's TJmax, and the ambient temp, the more potential cooling performance you have available.), and i wouldnt be surprised if they're running delidded to save a few extra degrees on that temperature delta.

 

funny thing about "running on an air cooler" is that it doesnt specify the kinds of temperatures the heatsink is pulling in, you could quite literally be on the north pole, with -50°c ambient getting sucked into the heatsink, and "be running on air cooling" by definition.

P.s. I have my 4690k running at 7ghz on the stock cooler.

because in some form of trying hard enough, you could make an fx9590 run at 5GHz on air, you'd probably need to go very low with ambient temperatures tho

it's been broken twice now. unfortunately not on air. give the motherboard manufacturers time to catch up. intel wasn't infallible either.

I ran my 4790K in a grocery store freezer once. Hooked an NH-D15 up to it. 6.3GHz and I only gave up because the voltage was north of 1.55

I couldn't possibly have made a video, because I didn't do that, because I'm not that dumb. Grocery store freezers are extremely humid. As soon as I took the system out, it would have condensed almost immediately. Bye bye all the things.

cpu temps under full load with corsair aio h100i 70F

cpu not under load 60F, ITS COLD AS A MOFO HERE.
