1080p or 1440p?

LyricalRain018

Hey guys just wanted to know whether 1440p is really worth it over 1080p. I am going to build a pc. I am coming over from ps4 gaming. So is 1440p worth that extra money?

P.S. I will be gaming on the pc most of the time. I don't care about the extra screen real estate.

Any reply will be appreciated.

Yes it is worth it to go 1440p. Make sure you get an IPS panel and as high a refresh rate as you can afford. I have a 60hz 1440p IPS panel that is OC'd to 75hz for the extra frames.

If you don't care about screen real estate then 1080p will be fine for you.

A downside to 1440p is that you need more horsepower to drive games you want to play, meaning buying more expensive parts to get the desirable frames per second you want and also the cost of a 1440p monitor. While there is some cheap 1440p monitors, they're mostly 60hz and TN. Personally, If I was to get a 1440p monitor, I'd go for an IPS, 144hz and G-Sync from a reputable brand.... and those monitors don't come cheap.

Yeah it is, its a day n night difference but if you're on a tight budget it ain't just but the money into the pc.

I've used both, I currently have a 1440p 144hz monitor. It makes a MASSIVE difference for the desktop, browsing, documents etc. For gaming it's meh. For 27" the PPI isn't that

much better than 1080p but I can definitely see how it can make a difference for smaller screens. I'd go 1080p 144hz instead of 1440p 60hz

As a person with a 24 inch 120Hz 1080p TN monitor and a 24 inch 60Hz 1440p IPS monitor, I'd say it's probably not worth it although I'm someone who seeks 100FPS+ for my 120Hz monitor and disregards graphics if the gameplay is good (as gameplay>>>>>>>>>>>>>graphics any day for me) :P

Plus I can't notice the difference between 1080p and 1440p in games so...

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

I was about to post something but he nailed it. I have a 165Hz 1440p with a GTX 1080 and was coming from a 180p 144Hz with a 770 and the difference is there but really marginal. You get a little better PPi in 27" and will be able to see distant objects a littel more clearly. it is also still usable on Windows Desktop compared to 4K so ...
Conclusion: If you have enough money and want to go all out I would get 1440p but i would not skip 144Hz for a higher resolution unless I NEVER EVER play ANY FPS game and don't plan to  do so in the future.

So i should get a 1080p 144hz monitor with gtx 1060 and not 1440p 60hz with gtx 1070.

That's a tough one, honestly I would say go 1070 and 1080p144 if you can save a bit more, otherwise I'd get a nicer 144hz monitor now that'll last and then get a better GPU a few generations later when the 1060  starts struggling

Yes, as long you choose a 27" Display. Anything below, 1080p is just fine.

I switched from 24" 1080p TN 60Hz to 27" IPS 144HZ 1440p (Gsync) and its a big difference.

Honestly, since you are coming from PS4 gaming, a 1080p monitor will do you nicely. It's better for your wallet, because you'll never except anything below 1440p again if you absolutely had to. That is, if money will ever be a problem for you.

Either 1080p 120+ fps gaming or 4K 60, 1440p is worthless these days.

I wonder how People can come up with such Nonsense. 1440p is the perfect sweetspot between Visuals and Performance.

Its not enough upgrade over 1080p, and nor you can achice the high fps you can in Full HD, nor the graphical fidelity of 4K, in my eyes its just not worth it.

I have experienced all those scenarios myself and i always prefer 1080p and mnore fps, and with good 4K panels getting cheaper by day 1440p gets irrelevant.

Again, Nonsense. The Visual difference in 27" between 1440p and 4k is almost not existing but i get 3x the FPS. Nothing more to say.

I would go with 1060 + 144 Hz monitor. Oh the other hand, FreeSync monitors are really cheap. You can get a 480 + 144 Hz FreeSync monitor.

I'm not a huge competitive gamer, which is why I went with 1440p 60hz IPS.  Games look incredible and the resolution is a true sweet spot for productivity.

I Feel like if your just buying one right now its hard to justify 1440p. It comes at a much higher price over 1080p but not far from 4k. 4k being the standard moving forward i would feel like why not skip over 1440p Unless you really Need 144hz.
