That would suggest that Linus has a very strict view of what Star Wars is.  From what I could tell, The Force Awakens was more so meant to be nostalgic rather than being original.  On the other hand, Rogue One was quite original, and more battle-oriented than most of the other movies.  To be honest, most of the people I've heard from have said that Rogue One is the second best Star Wars movie ever made (behind The Empire Strikes Back).  On the other hand, The Force Awakens was good, but not great (on par with A New Hope).

 

A lot of this post is just opinions, but I've observed this.  Linus may have a very strict view of what Star Wars is, which could mean that he dislikes almost anything straying from his view.
