$4000 Video editing/ gaming rig help

I will buy all four, but only use 2 for this rig and 2 in my server.

I needed more sata ports and I needed dual 16x PCIe for my other card

What else did I change?

What other card?

What other card?

I use a splitter to get (2) PCIe 3.0 8x slots, one for my capture card, the other for a nic to run to my servers.

So you need 4 pci-e 3.0 slots for that?

No, I need dual 16x gen 3 which is supported only by that board without going 2011

Yeah, the Extreme4 has 3 Pci-e 3.0 with triple at x8. Shouldn't that be enough? It's ~$150 more for the WS board.

Does it have 10 sata 6g ports with support for raid?

Really no clue what you need 6gb/s for but it has 8 6gb/s ports and an esata connector.

Support for raid 0, 1, 5, and 10.

Check the page: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z87%20Extreme4/?cat=Specifications

Nvm I don't have enough drives. I would prefer an asus mobo though.

This might help a bit. It's an X79 test, but it's a comparison of the SATA controllers effiency/speed (~ 2 Generations).

It includes the ASM1061 (used in the suggested ASRock board and the newer Marvel 889230 used in the WS board = Marvel now better (using 2 lanes) than commonly known typical older Marvel 88SE91xx (P9X79 Pro in test has 889128)

=> those new ones are able for RAID 0, 1 and usually also declared for 10.

The ASrock number 8th SATA shares it's abilitiy with the eSATA port, in case that one is also planned for future whatever.

http://techreport.com/review/25310/asus-x79-deluxe-motherboard-reviewed/5

=> the ASM1061 seems to be faster, but the Marvel seems to be a lot faster than in the past and is RAID able. I'm not sure if they tested before or after the rather recently released Marvel BIOS update, that seems to have again improved it a bit.

In the hope this might help as detail input, not saying pro or contra to either board myself.

@WoodenMarker

edit:

speeds of this test are not speeds of a Z87 board! + forgot the tags

I will consider asrock. Can you please recommend both an asus and an asrock board?

Interesting, which board do you prefer?

neither as I am aiming for an X79 board with an i7-4930K CPU

Nearly completed planing and saving (WoodenMarker helped me a lot with that too, I nearly planned e.g. a wrong PSU-company/type)

I'll wait for more user RL experience to get voiced in the www. I'll buy the one with then the most stabil BIOS... => too new often not sooo stabile as I prefer

For the moment I can't finalize my decision, one day I think it will be Asus X79-Deluxe, the next day I prefer Asus P9X79-E WS (and theoretically next ~ Monday released Rampage IV Black Edition, but I think that one will not end in my case)

z87 Plus: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-z87plus

Deluxe if you really need 10 sata ports... http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-z87deluxe

I think that's about it from me. I'd stick with the Asrock board for the black/grey theme but it's up to you.

Hmm. Are you going for a blue look or not?

I'd either just push the noctuas and use all noctuas or just go for blue--not both. Looks like you have a noctua/golden/brown thing going.

I have both blue and noctua in my system. It doesn't look that good.

Where'd the ram go?

Fixed the ram.

The mobo is black, the gpu is black/grey, black case, the h100i stock fans a black, and the noctuas on top for push/pull. Blue case fans and the blue led's will give a blue/black theme which I think will look really good.

With a dp to dvi adapter I will have 3 of the same VS239H-P monitors, plus my current crap one over the main for a total of four monitors. Do you think I should get one less and just have 3, the 2 asus and my crap one?

Do you like the 5.25 in card reader / fan controller?

You shouldn't be using the h100i stock fans..you should just put them away. Like I said, they're loud.

Why the sabertooth now? It doesn't look good with blue leds.

Depends on how much space you have and how you can arrange them. You'd probably just end up using 3 of them anyway. It's difficult to use more without a bit of unconventional mounting or placement.

I think manual fan controllers are pointless. I've had one--never used it. Controlling fans through the motherboard is so much simpler.
