How well will powerline adapters work in a house with maybe 10 year old wiring?

TechGod

Pretty much as the title says. My internet connection with a 5GHZ network is a max of 70 down and about 40 up unfortunately the wifi isn't stable in my room so that's why I am interested in getting a powerline

Run Ethernet if you can. Power-line extenders are finicky at best and a waste of money and time at worst.

So far for the 3 people iv suggested powerline. 2 work but for one it didnt and the two powerline adapters are right next to each other and it didnt work. If you can refund it if it doesnt work then great, if not you're out of luck

power lines are always a lotery, there's not much insurance about speed or reliability.

I've got some super old wiring in my house and powerline worked fine

but turns out the wifi card thing on my motherboard gave me better speeds than powerline, so I use that now

With 10 year old wiring, you should be fine. I've never seen a Powerline kit deliver less than 100mbps, so they're fine for access points and WiFi extenders.

I use a powerline adapter.  Wiring is over 25 years old.  The connecting outlets are on separate breakers.

My 100Mbs+ (download) turns to 40Mbs, but I can deal with that drop.  I drop the signal periodically, often enough to notice.  It is in no way perfect.  If I am playing something important, I just run a 50ft Cat5e to the modem to make sure I don't have any issues.

I would try to borrow a friend/family member's kit if anyone you know has one to test it out first.  I tested my connection with my brother's kit before I bought one.

I can't run ethernet which is why I am looking into powerline adapters in the first place.

That's odd as I've read a lot of reviews saying how its more reliable and faster than wifi

Nope as my internet isn't delivered via fibre or copper cabling. It's  a wireless solution which means that the radio isn't connected to the rest of the houses wiring.

But somewhere there is a modem or receiver that outputs ethernet...

Are you suggesting I move the PC down to where the modem is?

No, you buy a long ethernet cable that matches your wall colour and then run it along corners so it's invisible.

Well I used the wifi analyser app and discovered that the room next to mine gets -63dbm whereas in my room its more like 80 or 90 so I'm just straight up going to move my PC to that room.
