6600k to 7700k worth it?

Is it worth it? And how future proof is it? I have a gtx 1080 btw. I am an enthusiast so it's not really about needing it, i don't know if i should go for it now or wait for the next high end cpu lineup.

And are there any ideas on when new high end cpus are going to be released?

yup if you can afford an i7 go for an i7 that's a general rule i use, you will notice a big upgrade or a small one depending on the games you play. wait for ryzen before you make a final decision.

Simply put, no it is not worth it.

simply put depending on the game, i would say yes if OP can afford it.

the amount of money invested doesnt warrant the amount of performance gained.

Though with a GTX 1080 as OP's, such an i5 would limit the GPU in CPU intensive titles and in those titles the price increase might actually give him enough to justify the purchase, higher FPS, less stuttering etc, and we already know that an i5 might get maxed out at all cores even with a 1070.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB GDDR6 Motherboard: MSI PRESTIGE X570 CREATION
AIO: Corsair H150i Pro RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic PSU: Corsair RM850x White

most titles (that i've encountered at least) that are very cpu bound are also the ones that only use 4 cores tho. besides, gaming is one of those cases where hyperthread *REALLY* doesnt scale well anyways.

i'd rather suggest OP to sit it out, maybe save up some more, and look for bigger and better overall, rather than sinking 400 bucks into hyperthread.

My apologies, I misread and thought he said i7 6700k. The upgrade is definitely worth it depending on the use case.

Completely agree depending on the OP's use case. I apologize for misreading the title!

I would say there is no point there is only minor differences. Unless you want to watch Netflix in 4k

I now there are some games i could benefit from the 7700k such as battlefield 1, but i really don't want to buy a new high end cpu and withing a single year, have new one, far better than the one i bought come out. That's why i asked how future proof was it, and when was the new CPU lineup coming out.

id wait for ryzen. hopefully cpu prices go down and you can get an i7 for cheaper or get a ryzen cpu.

Should have gone with the 6700k in the first place xD

For now wait Ryzen release, the i7 7740k will come afterwards and seems is going to be a great processor.
