on my Moto X Play with only 2GB of ram
only thing running on Idle is Nova Launcher and im using around 800-900mb of RAM

ive done my best to disable as many background apps from running by disabling fetching of new data / push notifications
is this normail?

im just worried that once Android Nougat gets officially released for Moto X Play my phone is going to really starve for RAM if i try using the multitasking features

Backup your personal data.

Reset your phone and disable the system apps that are unnecessary for you.

Do not install huge amount of apps/unnecessary apps.

Use Greenify app for better battery life and free RAM.

Probably use CM Lite from Play Store for memory and junk cleaning.

I'm sitting at 2.4/3GB of average usage on my LG G4. It also says that was across 74 apps (including the system)

However I'd argue that trying to free RAM as much as possible is bad. The more things live in RAM, the less time is spent trying to get them into RAM and processing them. It's when you start using RAM so much it has to constantly swap stuff in and out that's bad.

So there's a fine line between "keep using it" and "oh wait, that's too much"

Normal.

You can check the usage by going into the settings under Device > Memory > App Usage.

On my 5x Android OS uses 753, and Android System uses 126. That's with everything closed.

Over a 24 hour period I average 87% memory usage.

I'm also running Nova Prime.

You should be more than fine. You'll be more likely let down by the SoC than the RAM.

Naturally, your personal mileage will vary depending on what you use app wise.

2.5/4GB right now on my Axon 7, but "idle" is a relative term; I have Spotify and a bunch of other apps open

True, yeah ill disable some system apps that i dont use like Google Newstand and Books etc., i dont think ive done that

I'm not worried about battery Life atm - 3630 mAh gets me 48 hours without issues

I've been always using CCleaner, how does it compare to CM Lite?

Good point

But is RAM holding cached data?

ex. with Ccleaner im able to clean 500mb of cached data, but it never resulted in freeing any RAM

CM Lite is like CCleaner for Android.

I'm a CCleaner user in Windows. But CM Lite works a little bit better on Android. I tried CCleaner; but didn't like it that much.

Greenify is not only for improving battery life. It's also for improving the performance because it stops the apps that aren't needed (you can select those) and saves you little memory. It has many options. Try the free version first then if you like it get the "Donate" version, it'll unlock some cool features, like hibernating system apps.

Probably not. I believe applications in Android don't really "close". They just become inactive. Similar to if you dismissed a window in mac OS, the application doesn't actually close.
