They're somewhat similar.  Both have the potential for heating issues.

While it's a weaker 1060 it's a nicer chassis.

I was stuck between the Alienware and Razer Blade Pro. For the Alienware, I got a couple questions

1. How troubling is the heating?

2. It says Kaby Lake doesn't have heating problems, so for that I gotta upgrade the processor?

3. Is 1080 noticable compared to the Razer's 1060?

4. How do I get a "feel" for sizes? Would 13s be too small? 17s too large? I kinda need a reference to daily life objects, cuz dumb.

5. Razer Blade Pro boasts impressive storage with 2tb hdd and 256 or 512 ssd, but a 1060. Alienware packs a punch with a 1080 but ok storage. What would be better?

Thanks a lot, guys!

The Razer Blade Pro RMA rate was really high.  If you can handle an AW size you should be looking at high performing laptops like the AW 17, MSI GT75, and Clevo P775.  Not the Blade Pro.

That kind of rumor is hard to confirm...  It's easily possible it's worse on some of the newer models but I'm not sure.

Hi guys.

I'm looking to a buy a new laptop in Canada. Something with a really nice display. And a GPU. Preferably under $1000-1100.

Ideally soemthing with an on-site warranty where they will pick it up from my place/ or if not that, then soemhting that I can easily have replaced or returned without much effort.

And basically are there any places like Costco, best buy, or online stores you recommend for the best deals and what not?  I'm completely new to this market so don't know anything about buying laptops here. Also I've never owned a laptop, always a desktop. Please help

Ideal config. GTX 1050ti/1060. I5 or amd equivalent. 1 TB storage. Maybe an SSD, not necersary though. 8gb ram. And a really good display, 1080p atleast, and maybe even IPS, of not va or TN.

Word of advice to any buyers right now is if possible wait about a month so we can see how the first wave of owners handle temps.

They're here lol.  8th gen intel mobile H series cpus are out.  However, no one really has their hands on them yet so we don't know how well cooled the new machines are.

If you meant gpus, those are still a ways out.  When new gpus arrive the guide will get a major revamp.

That sounds like you have a Mechrevo X2 or Z2?

In the U.S. they're like on sale right now for only 1500ish from Eluktronics.  That's not normal though.  And idk about a 4k screen but they'll have a 1070.

Illegear Raven (Mechrevo X1) is it? No one sells that model other than Illegear. Eluktronics Mech-15 uses X6Ti chassis. CyberpowerPC uses X6Ti, X8Ti and Z2 chassis, also some Quanta models.

Gotta be honest I'm still working on all the chassis models.  I'm trying to learn them as the actual TongFang models instead of the Mechrevo ones since TongFang is the ODM.  But the names are just mouthfuls of alphanumerics.

Eluktronics has the Z2 now.

I get it but that'll get confusing two if more brands start picking them up and renaming the chassis.  It's the same reason I only use Clevo models not Sager even though I know the Sager names.

Hi Boss @Galm, I am going to pull the trigger recent 2 weeks.

I checked out all your articles in first post, that's brilliant.

Just want to know if we have up to date deal for what I need as below:

1. Price around $2000. I can afford up to $3000, but I might resell it to junior student in 1~2 years. So I though it might be more difficult to do so if too costly.

2. It's a home laptop, 99% at home, no need portable, definitely 17'' (or above ?), game mainly, don't care of Aesthetic Quality, but do care Built Quality like cooling.

3. I can do some work like repasting and changing M.2 SSD or Memory, but prefer to rest and play without bothering else.

What do you think about laptop upgrading plan ? Buy a top end one and keep it for 3 years then resell,  OR buy an above average laptop for 1~2 years then resell ?  If the difference is just around $200 or so per year, I prefer latter.

As far as I can see best deal for now would be below in your original post, what do you think of that for now?

Acer Predator 17 with a GTX 1080 for 1999!
