Transporting Bulging Batteries

I have two batteries I have to get rid of immediately because they're bulging pretty bad. One is an OEM Samsung battery from some old Galaxy device and the other is a third party one that was for my S3. My plan is to drop them off at Best Buy tomorrow but I would have to do that between my classes. My question is, should I have no problem carrying these in my bag, transiting on bus and train for a total of 3 hours before I can drop them off? Any precautions I should be taking?

Personally I would toss them inside a metal container just in case, just don't let the contacts short, but if they didn't burst yet you should be fine for the most part.

I've dropped heavy weights on top of bloated batteries before, and proceeded to light it on fire in the rain, and I didn't get much of a reaction at all.

 

I'd say a metal container is probably more than adequate.

SkyTrain and bus to SFU Burnaby since I have a class in the morning, then bus and SkyTrain to the Surrey Campus for the afternoon ones.

Better than nothing

 

If you have a metal cookie tin or such that would do, it's just an extra precautionary measure if something does happen it stays inside the tin and doesn't catch other stuff around it.

any stuffs in your bag which may puncture the batteries is a risk

 

and heat is also the cause of battery fires

 

 

store the batteries in a metal tin away from sunlight and sharp opjects

wrap in fibreglass

wrap in an electric blanket

wrap in childrens pyjamas if your country regulates that sort of thing

drown it in silicone gel

Yeah like others said a metal container is good. Battery explosions aren't big,  it's just a little pop and of course fire(which is bad) they won't get any worse. Using them would make them worse.  This happens to rc batteries all the time. Look up 100Mph Rustler on YouTube,  that's the car I've got and batteries bulge all the time. But your best bet for protection is a battery bag,  they're fireproof.
