You can have legit porn sites go through the government

Terrible idea.

The government should definitively not be trusted with that kind of info.

and if they start stealing credit cards you have their info because of their registration. This is what https certificates were made for.

No... HTTPS certs protect, at best, against fraud. It does not protect from any of the other billions of bad things that might happen. Such as their database getting compromised (happened several large sites last year, including government websites and porn websites), or an employee having access to it and use that info to blackmail someone.

That's as much of a security risk as requiring credit cards for online sales, for instance.

Except you know, it's far easier to blackmail someone with their porn history than their shopping history (in most cases).

You're only thinking of this from a "the only thing that matters is my credit card info", but what you should be thinking of is your privacy.

I mean, you wouldn't give me your full name, address, telephone number and full access to your browser history right? So why give that info to not only some shady porn site, but also the government? When with our current system you don't give that info to either of them?

Edit:

If Yahoo, the democratic party, the NSA and the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication all got hacked last year, then I don't really trust "big dicks in white chicks dot com" or whatever to keep my personal information (which could be used to hijack my bank account, commit identity theft, and/or blackmailing) safe.

Wait, I thought the cited sites had a no underage policy? There's still the question of how to enforce 18+ only porn

Here's an idea for it (although I'm sure it's just a misstep and not a conscious decision): for the most part, porn is unrealistic and would set unrealistic expectations on kids. So it is probably better to have sex before you start watching porn so you have the experience to go "hey that's not how that works!"

i don't watch porn but given if it is possible there are no "unrealisic expectations" just people that are bad at sex.

The unrealistic bit comes in the form of shapes and sizes, you can't (most of the time) change that ;)

How about we educate children about sex, and then let the parents scold them if they get caught watching porn?

How about spreading awareness of the already existing porn-blocking tools which people are free to implement for themselves? Such as DNSes which redirects away from porn sites, or the feature in some routers which blocks porn domains. You know, stuff like that. Things which the end user has 100% choice over, and which doesn't require widespread bans or expensive infrastructure changes.

Is it even a serious enough issue for us to take any actions?

If you really want to "protect" your children from porn, then easy to follow guides are just one google search away. Don't tell me you should take away my right to watch porn just because some people are too lazy to spend 10 minutes Googling and following a simple guide.

As always with this sort of thing, parents shouldn't rely on the government to do their job for them. Aside from the fact that you can quite easily block these websites yourself on your network if you so desire, a nation wide ban is not how you educate a child on what's right or wrong.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Soooo. Can anyone here explain why?

Because Philippines.

The Internet is the first thing that humanity has built that humanity doesn't understand, the largest experiment in anarchy that we have ever had.

Because our government officials are becoming self-righteous extremists boldly declaring war on basic human rights and stifling free speech.

"Ban movies because they give unrealistic expectations"

"Ban models because they give unrealistic expectations"

"Ban comics because they give unrealistic expectations"

What an idiotic argument this is.
