XB270HU worse image at 144Hz than 60Hz

So I really don't know what to call this, and I'm not sure when it started or if it was there to begin with.  But I started using a live (animated) wallpaper and began to notice a weird 'texture' on my monitor.  It's almost like a grainy paper texture, so light that I only noticed it because the wallpaper has a lighter spot in the middle that slowly bobs up and down, so you can see the texture is on the monitor and not on the video playing in the background.  It's also prevalent in games, movies, et cetera.  However, when I swap the monitor from 144Hz to 60Hz, it goes away entirely.  This thing is still under warranty (3 years), but I'm not sure exactly how to describe the problem, what could cause it, et cetera.

 

I tried taking pictures, but the effect is so light that it was virtually impossible to get a good picture of it.

 

I was, however, able to get a video of it by pointing my camera and zooming in real close so you can see the variation in pixel colors..  It starts in 144Hz, swaps to 60Hz after a refresh, and when the video ends it'll repeat the gfy, so you can easily see the difference.

 

 

I'd recommend opening up the gfy and looking at the lighter blue spot in the red square.  You'll see weird little dark spots at 144Hz (the texture I spoke of), but not at 60Hz.

 

Any ideas of what's going on?  I don't think anyone who would sit down at my computer would notice it.  But now that I know it's there, I see it all the time.

update all drivers if that doesn't fix it return it and get a new one.

No, it's Displayport.  The other displayport cables I have that work fine on 144Hz 1440p Dell monitors have been tested on this monitor, so I'm fairly sure it's not a faulty cable issue.

Could this be an issue with the "live" wallpaper being set at a different frame-rate?

It's not new, it'd be a warranty.  Not 100% sure, but I think I foot the bill for shipping.

Don't think so.  It's prevalent in games, movies, and standard wallpapers.  I just only noticed it when I had the live wallpaper because it was a slightly moving image, so the texture began to stand out.

It's real faint, but if you know it's there, you'll see it all the time.  Kind of like having dust on your screen.

 

Open it up on the gfy page (it's too small to really see in the LTT forums embed) and look at the darker pixels in that light blue area inside the red square.  They exist in the 144Hz mode, but not in the 60Hz mode.

I highly doubt the company will even consider that a defect. Either way, you can try RMAing it to see if you get lucky with a new monitor.
