After Effects can't export in MP4

So I want to export a 7 sec video, it's just a logo with light fx and laser-looking thingies, but AE does not have MP4 in the list of available export fomats. How do I fix this?

That's the wrong export window. Go to File > Export > Add to Adobe Media Encoder Queue. There you can change whatever video preset/format you want. The dialog you have there is for exporting to a format to be used in a Premiere timeline; note that they're pretty much all uncompressed/lossless formats.

Do you have Creative Cloud or the standalone After Effects? Either way, I thought AME was included with Premiere and AE? Not sure what to do in your case then, because that's how it works with mine (I have After Effects 2017 with the Creative Cloud subscription).

The OP can download and install AME, though I think Adobe includes it as part of Premiere and not AE.  So I'm not sure how Adobe will charge him.

Or he can export to a QuickTime MOV file and then convert to MP4 with another tool.
