Why I should buy a 1060 over a 1070 (reference card)

CLOSED, THANKS FOR YOUR COOPERATION~!

Edit: Thanks, you guys have been  a great help with wicked quick replies! I didnt mention that I was going for a 1440p monitor and yes I know i5 6500 is going to be bottle necking, but in the future im going to swap it out for and i5 6700/k with an H100i.

Edit 2: I will probably go for i5 6700 since I don't trust myself overclocking things

I mentioned to a friend that I was gonna build a PC from scratch and I told him I was going to save for a 1070, and he said to go for the 1060 over the previously mentions 1070. I think wouldn't it be great to get the 1070 since its cheaper than the 1080 and is more powerful than the 1060, and I want a little more oomph when I build my PC, but he said just save $150.

At this point i'm stuck at a dead end, I want a high end GPU that is not overpriced gtx 1080, but I understand why getting the 1060 is a reasonable choice, but I like the pascal design of the gtx 1070.

I just want your opinion on why I should get the 1060, and if there are any future cards that are being released that will drop the price of better cards in the gtx 10 series

Here is gonna be my build that im building from scratch.

CPU: i5 6500

RAM: 2x8 Hyperx FURY(Black)

MB: MSI Krait Gaming 3X

GPU: GTX 1060 or 1070

Case: NZXT S340 (white)

PSU: EVGA 500WB

" but I like the pascal design of the gtx 1070. " what do you mean? 1070 would be bottlenecked by i5 6500,not worth it

You're only playing at 1080 right? Go for the 1060.

Why if he's only playing at 1080? Can a 1060 max out every game at 1080p 60fps?

If you are not going into 1440p or any deeper waters the 1060 should be more than enough at the moment. But if you are going to game at anything over 1080p the 1070 is worth the investiment.

Then 1070. I use 1080 for 1440p and even that doesn't max every game out at 1440p 60 fps.

Even for gaming at 1080p, I would recommend a 1070 if you can afford it. The 1060 might be good enough for now but in 2 years time, the 1070 will be able to run the new games better than a 1060.

When in doubt, re-format.

You have a bad friend saying you don't need a 1070 but rather a 1060 for 1440p

Luckily you came to us for help

There is a day and night difference at 1440p with 1070 and 1060. The 20 fps is very noticeable. From barely smooth to super smooth

If you had a stronger CPU I would say invest in the 1070, but with a 6500 get the 1060. My OC 4670K (A ever so slightly more powerful CPU) is already bottlenecking a 980 in some games, so expect to see even bigger bottlenecks in the future.

EDIT:

At 1440p get the 1070

If you are video editing, gaming and streaming, I would go as strong as you can as you will certainly feel the extra horses.

With a 6500? that'll be painful.

you'd need a 6700/6700k if you want it to be smooth

Yea, I should have mentioned that I was not gonna stick with the i5 6500, and was gonna make future upgrades for the cpu because if I waited for all the parts together I would have to wait about 6-8 weeks and if I stick with the i5 6500 I would only have to wait for about 2-4 weeks.
