Is it worth it to upgrade my CPU?

Go to solution Solved by Bananasplit_00,

yes its worth it, i wouldent upgrade to newer then that because you get to keep your RAM

I am wondering if upgrading from a FX 8350 to an i7 4770k or 4790k is worth it.

Should I just "wait for Ryzen" as many people have said, or go with it, and get all the advantages of the Intel platform.

Thanks in advance.

For now you might as well "wait for Ryzen", just to see what sort of price points and performance gulfs show up once everything is fully released.

It's worth it, at least to the 4790k, there's less of a gap for the 4770k so that's down to your own opinion and I wouldn't see that as worth it at least.

personally i would wait for ryzen because it is so close and there really is nothing to lose by waiting but you will see a significant improvement if you choose to go with a 4th gen i7. i know i currently have the same cpu and am waiting to see what ryzen has to offer before making my decision.

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

I was looking at userbenchmark, and the 4770k was way above the 8350.

CPUBoss shows the same thing in the benchmarks section.

that's because it is. its single threaded performance is way better and it has 8 logical cores making it really good in multi threaded workloads too.

Even if you go 4th gen, waiting for Ryzen may allow for 4th gen prices to drop.
