Hyper 212 EVO won't fit in my old Alienware Area 51 tower case

I have all new parts to put into my Area 51 Tower case: Motherboard, CPU, Power Supply, SSD, HD, NVidia GPU.
The problem is the side panel won't go on when the Hyper 212 EVO CPU cooler is installed.

The Alienware case is so huge it never occurred to me that the 212 EVO would be too tall

I have tried looking on Newegg for different coolers but the sizing is all over the map - inches vs mm, but some descriptions say 4.6 x 2 x 6.3 but don't tell what dimensions are which.
Can someone recommend a good cooler for overclocking that is 1/2 to an 1" shorter than the Hyper 212 EVO?

Well, the original plan was to have the retro Alienware case because it is such a cool old case. It's not just a square plastic box.
I know just getting a new case is an option, but it's just not my first option.

Why dont you just buy a normal case? and keep everything else and transfer cases

That aint no standard ATX mobo, wont fit in other cases. (methinks)

When in doubt, re-format.

I am not trying to fit all the old Alienware pieces into a new case, I am trying to fit new components into the old Alienware case.
And pwn_intended, the Alienware P2 chassis case that I have has a standard ATX Nvidia motherboard in it.

Well during those days 120mm cpu cooler don't exsit, so they never thought about future proofing it. :P

92mm is probably the tallest you can install.

Use the Cryorig's Origami to help you find the right cooler

Nothing's preventing you from getting out the dremel tool and doing a bit of custom remodeling... :P

A friend and I managed to fit a 240mm radiator into the top of a Corsair Spec-01 case with full height RAM... let's just say I didn't plan properly and found out last minute the case only supports radiators in the front.

We had already started to screw in all 8 longbolts, so I said screw this and modified the RAM heatsinks to make it fit. G.Skill might not like the modifications performed on the RAM modules, but, I mean, when's the last time you had a stick of RAM go bad, right?

Pff... warranty on RAM. Nah. He won't need to use it.

Cryorig H7 will probably fit. It is a good bit shorter, yet has more mass.

Figure out how much clearance you have available by measuring the distance from the cpu to the side panel.

What cpu are you cooling? Budget?

Numlock21 gave me a link to a cool little template that will point me towards CPU coolers that might fit but I think the template is a few years old so not of the current coolers are printed on it.

The EVO was about $40 CND so I was thinking I should be able to get a similar one (but shorter) for under $50 CND
The CPU we are cooling is an i5 6600K on an ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming motherboard

You can measure with a ruler.

Cryorig H7 is really good, might be a bit tall, do some measurements.
