Please, No Microsoft.

All I'll get at work is "My Windows has expired..." yet another thing to add to the list along with:

  • Office
  • Antivirus
  • Various other pieces of software

Plz don't implement, I know we wouldn't sell it because it sounds like too much hassle and customers WILL NOT keep on top of it...

Don't forget to @me / quote me for a reply =]

Enterprise software is usually licensed on a per device or per core basis, so this is no different to the usual enterprise licensing system.

If it is anything like what happens when you have an unlicensed Windows installation, it'll nag you to activate but you will still be able to use the computer.

Enterprises already fork over a subscription fee for support.

I also highly doubt Microsoft will switch to a subscription based license for consumers because there are so many negatives to it that it's not worth it. Then again they could just go the Red Hat model.

So long as it doesn't worm it way into mainstream copies I don't have a problem with it.
