They even have one seller offering 40 for $165 + $4.99 shipping.

Either is a great deal if you could actually use most of them.

product dimensions and weight sure don't seam to support a 40 pack

 also anyone know of a enclosure that reasonably priced that could handle this many drives if it's for real?

well I'm trying this wish me luck

If I actually get them, I'll make a cheapo NAS. They're loud as hell drives, so it'll be interesting if this is legit, will be sure to make build log XD. Especially given this is SATA and not SAS.

I have a feeling this is a listing error, but my god, if it's not

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

It is worth noting that the electricity costs can add up quickly and can make a difference to SOME people. You're talking about an extra 180w~ compared to five 4tb drives if all the drives are under load (not at standyby). That's $200~ year extra, not to mention the need for some way of connecting all the drives.

So after about three years, it will cost more to run these drives then just buying proper drives. Again, that's assuming the drives are under load (or idling). If they spend most of the time powered off or in standby, then it would take more like a decade for electric costs to matter.

500gb Raptor vs. 4tb Red

read/write - 5w vs. 4.5w -> 180w difference

idle - 4.2w vs. 3.3w -> 150w difference

standby - 1.1w vs. 0.4w -> 44w difference

I MIGHT throw these in a NAS and make a stupid as hell build log, but what's most likely to happen if I actually get them is to use them for archive drives and put a few of them in my workstation if they aren't way too loud.

I do have 3 computers on in my office 24/7 for the most part, I'm aware of electricity cost.

Yeah, I was just looking, after the costs to get a device capable of running these guys I could buy a couple of LARGER capacity drives and just throw them into my new case.

You could sell each one of these for $20 and still make $600 profit lol.

Amazon changed the listing since yesterday. Yesterday it was clearly titled as a 40-pack.

I screencapped the old title when I ordered for this reason, I figured this might happen. I will return if I don't get 40 in the mail tomorrow.

I hope you do get 40 as that's an unbelievable deal for some quality HDDs.  If I recall correctly, my math worked out to about $5 per drive.

Good call on the screen cap.  I would have done the same if I would have ordered.  I trust no one. Haha.
