i3 6100 with Z170-A ? I plan to upgrade CPU in the future

Greetings Amazing Peeps,

 

             

    This actually the 1st time ever I am writing a thread on any kind of forum so please be kind to this noob. 

 

I am trying to build my own wall mounted PC however it's actually also the 1st time I am ever building a pc myself. I wanted it to be budgeted but still give me some freedom to upgrade in the future. I was wondering if it was worth pairing an i3 6100 with Z170-A motherboard for now and upgrade in the future (in like 2years) which can help with OC or should I really not worry about it and go for a cheaper motherboard for the build? I do not plan to play any huge games , mostly E-Sports like CS:GO , LoL and others of the type. I do wish to get decent performance on games like Battlefield 1 tho (medium-high settings @ 60 fps).

Like I said I am a complete beginner so please forgive me if I am a little slow.

i dont see why not as long as its realistic that you will upgrade and its not just a "option"

because if you most liklry arent going to upgrade any time soon maybe spend less on the mobo and put the money elsewhere

What do you mean by anytime soon ? 

I mean, according to you, if I build this pc when should I upgrade the CPU? 

 

it's really all confusing to me. I wanted a motherboard which can still be used as a base for future upgrades. However, will it really be worth it to get the Z170-A ? I mean we never know what future technology might come in. 
 

Do you have any suggestions to this build ?

You could also just get something right away that will run all games at ultra at 60 fps:

Can you please try to put together another build for me ? I really don't need the ultra right now. Like I said I mostly play E-Sports games but would like to play other 'High end game' at at least medium- high settings. I wanted it to easily help me with upgrading in the future without need of changing motherboard or power-supply for example .

It's not really worth future proofing with new technology coming out multiple times a year. And the PSU will handle any current gen GPU.

You can always put an I7 or Kabylake cpu into a non Z170 motherboard. Getting a 6500 and lower end motherboard would be your best bet

You only need a z170 if your going to upgrade to an unlocked cpu. Even getting a h170 or b150 you can still put any Skylake cpu in it and be fine. What the first response was saying is don't waste money now for something your not sure you're going to do. And if you're only playing esport type games unless you throw starcraft in the bag there isn't a big reason to upgrade at all honestly. Unless you get into streaming.

I truly wish to start low then climb up into more demanding games.

When I was younger playing gpu or cpu intensive game was out of question. Now that I work I really want to start working toward the ' high end goal' while still being able to play current gens game. This is why I wanted a Z170 motherboard because I will definitely upgrade CPU in the future but I will upgrade GPU 1st because I believe it make more sense. Still the mobo is the only thing which is really increasing my over all cost. I mean it's at least $100 difference.

i3 cannot be overclocked right ?  I saw a video where a guy did do it, however the temperature raise didn't seem to make it all worth as I will not have any cooler but stock.

Either way unless you plan on overclocking the z170 is excessive. You could still put any Skylake in a H110, B150, or H170. The i5 6500 paired with the 6gb 1060 will run every game at 1080 without any problem.

Alright then, what best board do you guys suggest ? I want one which can hold at least 3 years or more before in need of change . I really have no idea how long the 'standard' will stand .

Any board will last 3 years easily as long as you don't stress it out or have a super cheap power supply, keep it free of dust and taken care of there's no reason you couldn't keep it going for longer than 3 years. You just have to find one with the features you want (ie: built in WiFi, USB type C, more than 1 pciex16 is you plan on using a vmie drive or pcie WiFi solution yadda yadda etc.)

Personally I'm going to build my dad's computer today and I'm going with an i3 paired with a gigabyte H110 board likely putting a Rx460 in it for a good budget 1080 machine

Man picking pc part is harder than I thought it would be.  I will do some more research. How long do you believe that this pc will be up to the standard ? One with wifi and audio already incorporated doesn't seem bad.

Something along these lines is what I'll be doing. That mobo doesn't have any extra features like WiFi or anything. But I don't recommend gaming over WiFi anyways you should always hard line. And it has plenty of USB connectivity and I don't think my dad is going to need more than one pcie slot

I think Nena was referring to rumors that kabylake will have an unlocked i3 offering.
