It has 8 of its own, for a total of 24. X99 has 8 for a total of 48.

Where do you get 8 from? It's 6, giving the user a total of 24 usable pcie lanes. Combine with cpu, then they have a total of 40, just like a x99! :D

and AMD 990FX has 44, mind you it's gen 2. But for non HPC workloads you arent going to hit the bandwidth limit with Gen2 outside of like 2-3x Samsung 960 Pro in RAID 0

And z270 would have a combine total of 46.

you're missing the point so poorly i cannot be arsed to explain it to you.

Really? :(

:D

So does it matter whether they're coming from CPU or Chipset when they are both running at gen 3. They are giving you, what you want. Don't know the fudge your moaning about.

enough lanes to support dual M.2 NVMe and 8x + 8x CF/SLI and a 2x or 4x PCIe AIB of sorts?
2-4 native USB 3.1 ports?
i mean, look at ZEN, it will support 2 USB 3.1 ports natively. It's not like Intel is in any way unable to match that. So Intel is just being "cheap".

Is it so much to ask for 28 lanes as "basic" Z270 and rather get 40 lanes or more on X99?

We are, by all means, talking about a "Z" board. If prices increases due to features, in a board series that is already aimed towards "maximum features and overclocking", then who cares? 5-10$ more for a better base feature set is worth it.

good to see more lanes as drives move to that format

Pointless as long as they're all behind the same DMI bottleneck.

Although it'll likely take more than just a minor change in the chipset to change that.

Well, I mean, what is Intel supposed to throw on a chipset to make it impressive? More than 18 SATA ports?!

Fix that DMI bottleneck. :)

My guess: they're afraid people would come up with crazy budget combos, like combining i3's or i5's, that'd outperform the far more expensive enthusiast i7's.

It's 8x now,

The higher lane count for having multiple M.2 or an M.2 and a sound card or 10Gb ethernet card is a decent upgrade, not to mention the higher clocks on the chips.

Where are you getting that?  So far all I've seen i sthat it's still DMI 3.0. So that implies just the same 4 PCIe 3.0 lanes that you'd find on a Z170.

Not saying that's necessarily reliable, but nowhere have I seen that DMI upgrade. And if it was real I'd really expect it to be plastered all over the net as that'd be the most worthwhile thing about it.

why on earth would you want dual cpu on a consumer platform when you can get the same amount of threads on an ethusiast 8 core processor?

because

  • it be cool
  • dont take this seriously like please
  • i already have a 8c/16t dual xeon setup

also how cool would it be to have 16c/32t huh ? imagine the uselessness

Then please explain why everywhere Kaby Lake on Z270 is said to have 24 total lanes.

As cool as having Trump be president elect. That is to say, not cool at all, absolutely retarded, completely useless, and why the fuck would you want to live in a world where that is a thing?

i fail to see how the heck you suddenly came to that topic

completely overkill and thus useless pc (maybe a use in editing and heavy workload) -----???????----->>>  Donald Trump

Off to a  tangent  when would Intel launch a 6/8 core  consumer  chip(not enthusiast)  and  would zen  finally  push them to do so?

Que? Having more or less lanes on the chipset has nothing to do with the total bandwith from the PCH to the CPU.

As I said, I'd love to see it, but the only one I've seen claiming this is you; all other sources mention it's still DMI 3.0. So I don't understand where you're getting it.

So I still have some trouble understanding how it's somehow common knowledge that Z270 supposedly has a DMI 3.1 interface spanning 8 PCIe lanes.

24 lanes, consistently! 16 on the CPU, CONSISTENTLY! My God you're thick!
