Thats what does the work

 

Cores = physical integer + floating point units

 

Threads = Using one core with multiple paths of code at once to reduce slow downs

 

Basically hyperthreading adds about 30% in perfect situations, but normally about 10-20%

if its the worst i5 vs the best i3, than the i3 would win. if both are mid grade, than i5.
