5820k vs 6800k?

For video editing full hd and 4k videos purposes. When comparing the 5820k to the 6800k. Is there going to be a noticable difference in the performance of the 6800k over the 5820k. Or should I just save some money and go with the 5820k?

I was originally going to get the 5820k too, but I decided to get the 6800k because despite costing very slightly more, its skylake and gets slightly better multi core performance

You can get the 6800k for $380 on Jet.

Wouldnt be a bad deal if I can pick one up that cheap when it comes time for me to purchase one.

There are a few $50-60 max discount codes floating around just add that in the cart and it puts it into the $380s.

Both similar chips.

The 6800K is just Broadwell-E and performance slightly better out of the box.

But not realy that much better.

Still if the prices are similar then i would go with the 6800K anyways.

But if you do 4K video editing and rendering allot.

Then the 6 core parts are a bare minimum depending on the software used.

The 8 core parts 5960X / 6900K would be more suitable if you realy do allot of render workloads in 4K.

But yeah those 8 core parts are rediculous expensive.

Would anyone hesitate picking up used cpus? Ive seen some decent deals on 8 core i7s compared to their cost new. Just a bit cautious of buying something like that used.

Well if i could find a good deal on a used 5960X for example.

Then i would grab it over a new 5820K or 6800K any day of the week.

Paypal has buyers protection i think.

It won't shave a huge amount of time off a render, 6800k is by far the best bang for the buck unless you literally pump out a video like every single day. Then by all means you might jump all the way up to the 6950X or something but that is $1650, even the 8 core is $1000..

6800k has a better IPC and is more power efficient, 5820k usually gets a higher overclock. I'd say it depends on the price difference. If it's <~$75 get the 6800k, it's more get the 5820k.

For the vast majority of video editing and rendering, anything above a 6800k is overkill and not worth the money.

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Spoiler

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.

I kinda disagree with that.

Maybe if you talk about 1080p footage.

But not if we speak about 4K render footage.

But for just hobby render 2 video´s a week.

Then anything above the 6 core parts are indeed overkill.

I mess with 4k drone footage and love gaming and do a little video but nothing more than a few videos a month for me I opted for the 6800k and spent that extra $1200 on a watercooling loop vs. a cheap cooler and a 6950X. You could optionally spend the extra money on a new monitor or desk and chair, the wife and kids, a trip to the dentist, pizza for the poor downtown, lol.....
