DDoS protection?

Hey, I'm in need of help.

 

So my friend says he can DDoS me, and I don't want that to happen (duh)

 

He's a new hacker, he basically uses things that he finds on line, so is there any form of protection against this (I probably dont need much, he's probably using some online program)

 

(P.S. If its for download please send the link for mac as well.)

As long as your download is faster than his upload you should be fine.

It's doesn't matter if he has your IP, he can't ddos you.

Worst case scenario is he can try to dos you and make his own internet unusable

Oh geez! Tell his parents and inform the police. If you have textual evidence save it incase you do have an attack. It's a federal offense. Tell him this so he doesn't get in trouble if you care about him

That is unless he has a network stresser or is using octopus and has a bot net which I doubt he has. He would probably use LOIC and be a script kiddy. If he does it just call the police and have all of his electronics seized

He might have access to abbot net. Let's just assume the worst case and help him just incase

And yes a ddos would render his internet unusable because of sending that many requests

Are you kidding? It's probably some 15 year old who doesn't even know how ddosing works.

A DDoS attack is not hacking, finding scripts online is not hacking. He is a script kiddie at best and most likely these tools he finds online have infected his computer and made him a part of a botnet.

 

Even if he does DOS or DDoS you there is nothing you can do to stop it since the requests and junk data will overwhelm your connection if you have less download than he does upload, you need more bandwidth than what is being sent to you.

if he says he can DDOS you and if he does DDOS(atempt) you he is nothing but an ahole imo and you should no longer be friends with him,also you could report him to the propper authorities and such if he does since a DDOS(attempt) is a crime and such.

Do you have a static IP? if you don't, then you can just get a new one easily when you router is restarted.

 

Also get a new friend.

You would know if you have one, you normally have to pay 10+ extra per month.

DDoS != hacking, 

 

Actual hacking isn't just finding code you find online and running it, but actually doing work to come up with code.

 

All your friend is going to do is pay someone online to DDoS you.

Well, if he has your IP then he can use webbased booters (which have taken me down a lot), bot nets or telnets all of which can take take your stuff, but you can't just block his IP since all the those methods use several even up to hundreds of different IPs to send packets to your router. the best way to prevent it would be to contact your ISP and ask for a dynamic IP (an IP address that changes everytime you restart your router) so In the event you do get DDoSed or DoSed you can unplug your router and be fine. they do make special router swith DDoS protection but they can be pricey.

LOIC isn't even a stresser really, people i've talked to say it will only stress your own internet, pretty much defeating it's purpose.
 

If your friend is trying to DDoS you he's probably not much of a friend. You can pull his IP and contact his ISP and tell them about this and he could probably have his internet shut down

His friend's upload speed is probably less than OP's download speed so it would pretty much have no effect anyway.
