If you can stretch an extra $10, I'd get the Corsair K70 LUX RGB.

  • 1 month later...

i might be getting a mechanical keyboard for christmas and im torn between the corsair strafe and the razer blackwidow ultimate. i want the corsair for their build quality and the nice cherry switches. and i want the razer for the 70 million keystroke guarantee and their GREAT lighting, but is it worth the risk of their really hit or miss build quality

I don't have anything against razer, I do like most of their products.

But go with Corsair. The switches on the black widow are so friggen loud I basically bought a new keyboard just because of it. Oh, its also the size of an elephant.

No. Because their build quality is meh and they're overpriced. Which keyswitches are you looking at? Since Razer only makes two you're basically out of options for any other switch.

The Strafe is great, but then again I don't really worry too much about lighting

if i got razer i would get the orange ones and if i got the strafe i would get browns

Not the deathstalker. I reseated the keys on mine and I literally had to lubricate them to get them to move again. Even so they don't move great, they're frustrating and sticky.

I intensely dislike Razer for two reasons. One, their keyboards feel like $30 Amazon crap. Two, their keyboards last about as long as $30 Amazon crap. Three, there's a reason for that: Razer's mechanical switches are manufactured by Kailh, which is the company that manufactures key switches for a lot of the $30 Amazon crap.

tl;dr don't waste tons of money on Razer crap when you can get a much better Corsair, Logitech, even a G.Skill or Rosewill for the same price or less.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

I agree with all of this. However, Razer makes their own switches now, Kailh doesn't make them. Honestly they are probably worse off for making them in house lol

Corsair or Kolke seems better options... Razor is like Apple, they do make good products but the marketing overprices it considerably.

That's what they get for making crappy knockoffs of crappy Chinese knockoffs. Seriously, I prefer Outemu and Switch Master to the Kailh switches I've played around with, and it's not even close.

Switch Master blues are actually really good, imo, and there's some $40 Amazon crap out there using them.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

I own a Blackwidow, and I can't recommend it. Their mice are alright but if you want a true quality keyboard, go for someone like Ducky or WASD. A cheaper option is the Cooler Master Masterkeys Pro S.
