Why is the power connector on the side?

mckrackin5324

Seriously...

That power cable is the ugliest thing in any of my PCs. I usually spend extra money on a nicer looking cable when what I really want is not to see it at all.

What would be so hard about putting it on the end?

I know why the fans are on the bottom but that power cable though...

Having the power connector on the side allows manufacturers to produce longer cards but still fit in the same footprints of some smaller cards. How much flex there is to a cable changes as well, and makes factoring that into the overall length a pain in the ass.

It would be nice if PSU makers just started selling right-angle PCIe power cables.

I could add a third fan to my cards and still have room to plug in the end.

As it is,the cable is jammed up against the side of the case.

Hell,I'd rather have it on the outside of the case as on the side. lol

EVGA has a really nice adapter to plug in the end but it's $30 or something like that.

Here you go. Exactly what you want in a gaming card only its a quadro and costs $5,000 for the M6000 and about $3,000 for the k5200 if I'm not mistaken. Also they would game similar to a standard GTX or TITAN.NVIDIA-Quadro-M6000-With-Quadro-K5200-Ge

Not everyone can say that, and it can't be said for every card or case. In cases like the Node 202, placing the 6 or 8 pin on the back can push a card that barely fits over the threshold.

Then we need options...that don't cost $5000. LOL

And when building a PC,the case is your choice. If something doesn't fit,it's because you decided it shouldn't.

There aren't many options for cases in width though. I have a mid tower that should be plenty big enough but my power cable makes it hard to get the side cover on. I actually removed the glass to make more room.

Then you decided that your card shouldn't fit, if we're using your logic.

There are dozens of options when it comes to width, depth, and height, and most cases are made to accommodate wider cards with the 6/8 pins on the side. If you got one that didn't, then you didn't check the size of the card and what the case accommodates.

You're right. I could get a different case. This is the third PC to be built in this case btw...The original fit just fine.

But that cord is ugly 100% of the time. No matter what case you choose.

That's a matter of personal opinion, and quite a number of people can tie a case together with sleeved cables, either aftermarket or they picked out a power supply that matched what they wanted.

You don't understand...If I see the cable,it's bad.

I am capable of buying better looking(less ugly)cables.

I don't want to see it. I want to look at the card. Not wires ;)

Unless your cables are the thickness of 24 pin ATX mainboard cables, there are a number of ways to route them that can look attractive. You just have to get creative.

The power really should be on the bottom. Eight pins would be enough for any card. and a standardized PCI plus power slot and bam no more cables past the main board.

That would be tough for SLI or Crossfire but yeah...I like the way you think.

Most cards overhang the board anyway so why not have the plugs there. I mean that would clean the whole thing up and you can mod almost any case easily to pass a cord through to the back of the card or bottom, whatever. Well for me as long as I don't need a cutting torch I figure it's gotta be pretty easy.
