USB 3.1 to 10GbE

honna1612

Can anyone here recommend or know of any adapter that converts USB 3.1 to 10GbE?

Many adapters from USB 3.0 to Gigabit already exist. USB 3.1 supports 10Gbit data transfer so adapters should be possible.

It should also be cheap as possible without sacrificing anything said above. Thx

Very few motherboards have 10 gbit USB ports.

Some USB ports are created using controllers that run on pci-e x1 v3.0 which means the total bandwidth is more like 985 MB/s. 10 gbps is around 1200 MB/s. Only higher end motherboards would waste 4 pci express lanes to create two usb 3.1 ports.

Also, the overhead of the usb drivers... it would mean a lot of cpu usage to transfer data at those speeds.

You should be patient and wait for 802.3 bz network cards, which can run at 2.5 gbps or 5 gbps with regular ethernet cables, and current usb 3.0 to ethernet chips could be adapted fairly easily to work at those higher speeds. Also regular network cards could be made much cheaper than 10gbps network cards.
