To drop out of college or no?

DenVu

I have been studying building engineering for 3 months now and I'm not quite satisfied, Most of my lessons involve drawing, Which i wouldn't mind if they were more artistic (Drawing building plans and such don't come anywhere near artistic). I do however like the Math and physics lessons. However i don't have a connection to building engineering in any way eg: i don't read articles about buildings and such or architectural books. In my high school i had an  ICT class which i really enjoyed.

now my question is should i switch to a more mathematical study or a ICT oriented one or should  i stop thinking about switching a all. If you have any recommendation regarding study's please post them below

If the uninteresting outweighs the enjoyment you should switch over.

It depends how long your engineering course is (I mean how long until you have completed it) and really it's just the case if you really dislike it then maybe going onto another course is a good thing but then again you will waste time since I dough anyone will allow you to join a course now and you will have to wait until the next 'school year'. I'm on an IT course myself in college and I do enjoy it but then again for now we are only learning things that I already knew about for quite some time, obviously it depends on the country and what they will teach you but if you were here in UK and were going to go on a course I would recommend IT.

there many areas in engineering you could move over too electronic , mechtronic and chemical engineering seems to still going strong and pays great

Its all about those volumetric clouds

if you dont like engineering but you do like ict then go do that but first ask your parents

I started uni six years ago in Bio-Chemical Engineering, found that I was not really interested in the course material.  I made the choice to go to a different university and studied both History and Comp Engineering.  Ended up with a major in History and a minor in Comp.  Now I work for that same university and honestly, I do not regret dropping out of Bio-Chem.  I was not enjoying going to school after a semester.

I recommend that you talk everything over with your parents and potentially visit the registrar's office to see what kind of options you have to transfer programs.  It's much easier to transfer programs then it is to drop out and then reapply at a later date, trust me.

come to Texas A&M and study Construction Science. our department is built of engineers who decided they didnt want to draw all day but rather do more construction management.

you've only been in it for 3 months. I'm sure that the program will have more of a connection when you get deeper in.

I'm in computer engineering right now, and it is a ton of math. There's practically zero drawing involved, apart from schematic diagrams of circuits, which really aren't artistic at all, unless you really like squares.

If you're not happy then just switch to something else. Losing one year is pretty meaningless.

Dont get stuck in something you're not enjoying. I started doing a Bachelor of Information Technology. It was a 3 or 4 year course.

I couldnt stand sitting in a room for an hour listening to some one talk at me. They made me do an english class aswell which was retarded. Networking was the only fun class and I flunked that as soon as the first test came around and I had to write 3000 words on how something worked.

In short, I dropped out of the class and got a job. I personally dont understand why I need to write so many words to explain something if I can explain the same thing in one sentance.

College is useful though. If I had a degree in IT I could have got a job with my flatmates company working databases globally making heaps of money. Im thinking of going back to uni for the purpose of making money.

Do what you'll be good at or what you'll be happy with. The job may be different than your course. I changed my major 4 times before I finally settled on something and who knows if it will change from there?

If it's the Waterloo I'm thinking of, it would make him Canadian, attending the University of (you guessed it) Waterloo.

I'm sure OP will spend hundreds of dollars to travel to a school that is quite frankly not ranked very high nationally and on top of that also pay out-of-state tuition.

To OP: Check with your adviser/counselor to see which majors are viable to switch into. I would recommend a mechanical engineering degree from what you wrote about yourself. You should stick with engineering, however.  It sounds bad, but you'll be paid much more as an engineer rather than an IT guy. It will be much more conducive towards your career and life to find a balance between getting a high paycheck and completely loving your job. It sounds like the balance for you could be found quite easily in another engineering focus.
