Referance RX 480 8GB or Aftermarket 4GB

Which one is better? The aftermarket RX 480 8GB are 80 dollars+ more than the 4GB but some of the reference 8GB are the same as the 4GB aftermarket. I'd like to overclock a little but Im not planning on doing anything risky

6gb 1060 > 8gb RX 480 custom > 8gb RX 470 > anything with 4gb.

 

If you can't afford a GTX 1060 6gb, or a RX 480 8gb AFTERMARKET (Not the shitty crappy Reference, that consumes too much for the 6 pin connector, and has pretty temperatur problems with loud fans....

Hoenstly, get a RX 470 8gb (MSI Gaming), that should cost 50 bucks less, and similar as the RX 480 4gb.

What resolution are you playing at? How long do you want to keep the card for?

 

Note though that the reference card is a bit louder...

Reference card is a bit loud and warm but nothing too severe. If you can deal with that then grab it.

Well, DX12 didn't even hit the market so far. There are like 3 good DX12 implementations. More than half of all DX12 games run better in DX11. Rise of the Tomb Raider, Deux Ex, BF1, etc.

Price of an 8gb 480 for maybe a little less performance but quieter too. It probably OCs better as well.

I personally think that if you want to keep the card for 3 years you probably do.

The 1060 3gb is already having its VRAM totally filled up in a considerable amount of games at 1080p, and VRAM usage will only increase over the years. In one or two games the 480 4gb I already running out of VRAM, and with dx12 the memory management moves from AMD and nvidia's hands to that of the devs (in the end games start using more VRAM because of poor memory management by devs, just look at Rise of the Tomb Raider when it first launched). 

 

If if you think you'll be turning down settings n stuff far enough the VRAM won't be a problem in 2-3 years then you might be fine with 4gb, but IMO 8gb is worth the extra few bucks.

I can always lower a setting or 2 so I think Ill just go for an aftermarket 4gb
