Worth upgrading to skylake?

Hello there,

 

I am looking to upgrade the CPU of my pc. I currently have a i5-4460, I am thinking of upgrading to either an i7-4790k or a i5-6600k.

(yes I know I'd have to buy a new mobo and ram aswell if I upgrade to skylake)

 

Here in the Netherlands the 4790k is around 370 euros and the total upgrade cost of skylake is around 500 euros.

What would you guys suggest?

4790k it's a i7.

For the extra 130 it'd be worth it.

 

It would give you something that is more up to date and potentially more future proof than the 4790k. Plus it gives you the current platform and not 1 platform behind.

4790k will outperform 6600k but if you are upgrading just for playing games then 6600k is better because while playing games there would be no noticeable difference but you would be able to use the latest architecture & ddr4 ram.

Wait for KabyLake/Zen (Phaha, like Zen will be any good... *cough* Bulldozer *cough*) if you can wait that long. It wont be a massive upgrade but you'll get a bit more performance for a bit less cash. And maybe an affordable Intel 8 core?o.O?O.o? Plus, SkyLake CPUs may drop in price when Kaby Lake releases.

Then upgrade in the future lol. At least wait for Kaby Lake or even better Skylake-X on the chances that Kaby Lake OC better than Skylake (like Devils Canyon did vs Haswell) or get a 6-core Skylake-X cpu with the high IPC of Skylake so the upgrade feels worthwhile. Kaby Lake should be coming around January and Skylake-X sometime from April-June.
