I would probably go for the RX 480 (even 4GB, if you can find any aftermarket coolers at least). But if you're gonna wait until Zen comes out, my suggestions aren't worth a lot anyways. Stuff can change in a couple months.

I wouldn't go for the 3gb 1060 personally, try and get the 6gb one.

You should probably wait for Kaby Lake too. If anything, it'll have slight improvements over Sky Lake for the same cost. And I doubt Zen will be any good, but who knows?

Haha that explains why it was so cheap I did not see that it was 3gb.

Thanks

Whats your Pc Going to be mainly used for? Gaming? If so I think the RAM amount is fine as it is, However if your doing tasks which require a large amount of productivity then go with 16Gb of ram, You dont really need more than 8gb for gaming.

MochPot: AMD Ryzen 5 2600, 16GB 3200MHz DDR4, ASRock X370 Fatality K7, 8GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070, 256gb Salvaged Intel Rando NVME SSD, Corsair RM750x, Corsair Carbide 275R, Windows 10 Pro

Then I would say that this is a pretty good build, Maybe go with a mother board that has some added features and support for future hardware, It will do what you want now but having extra features is always nice.

Why are people so insistent on the RX 480, when the 1060 gets a large percentage better performance in the vast majority of games, and the very few DX12/Vulkan games only beat the 1060 by a fraction...?

If you're keeping your GPU for 3-4+ years the RX 480 might be a good choice, but I wouldn't recommend it otherwise imo.

I do agree that a better CPU cooler would be good, Even if you don't really care about looks its still a good thing to have to keep your CPU nice and cool, especially if you plan to overclock. It could even keep your system alive longer if you get a good one with enough airflow.

Just joking, Chrome just eats through RAM and uses alot of it to keep tabs open.

It was more of a joke than actually saying he need 16gb, 8gb is likely fine. However Its hard to believe you have that all open and still have RAM to spare.

Maybe you could go super budget with your CPU, just enough to not bottleneck a better graphics card like the 1070, and then upgrade your CPU when Cannon Lake comes around next year (assuming it's going to be a decent performance jump).

That could be a smart upgrade path.

It's 2016, 16GB for gaming is the standard now.

8GB isn't really enough anymore considering your OS uses a quarter of that, and you probably want to have other stuff open while gaming like music or whatever.

And games can use more than 8GB.

Since ram is so cheap these days there is no reason to limit yourself to 8GB.

That's absolute rubbish. 16gb will make no difference to gaming, and little to actual usage for the average person. 8gb for a build under 1k is perfect. There are plenty of other things that you should be spending the extra money on before hand.

When you run out of ram, everything stops working correctly.

Not just the game, but all programs, your OS, etc..

$20 for ram is not a lot if it means you can actually play games and run programs without running into the "windows has run out of memory" message every time you try to multitask.

There are games that use over 8GB of ram. If you don't have enough ram, you need to shut off programs or lower settings.

For $20 you should not be limiting your ram and what you can do with your PC.

Image result for game ram usage
