I couldn't find a thread on this surprisingly. Anyway.

Out of interest, what's your typing speed? (and accuracy ofc) Also, what keyboard did you use?

You can check here: https://www.speedtypingonline.com/typing-test

This kind of test is completely useless with me because I can only type while looking at the keyboard :P

That's... terrible. Did you not taking typing lessons or something when young or in school?

I self taught myself typing, but I did have some short typing lessons when I was like in grade 3.

The best result I got after 4 tries or so:

I really hate speed typing online, I find typingtest.com a bit better, particularly in terms of design.

I must say that the layout of the test itself does make a big difference. For example, on speedtypingonline, the way that the text you're typing goes from the bottom back up to the top is not very seamless, and makes it difficult to follow sometimes. Also they occasionally use Nouns for places that you don't necessarily know how to spell unless you're familiar with the place. So rather than typing out a word you know, you're typing out a series of letters as seen on screen, which slows you down.

Yeah the main reasons for me to type slowly any time I do is having to read off something that I'm not familiar with, or waiting for my brain to come up with the next thought :P

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Also, for me, the damn test the Op tested threw a damn semicolon at me! Pfft, no one uses those in practice xD

I do, but why someone thought it would be used so heavily that it needed to be in home row is beyond me...

I'm really really bad. When I started posting on LTT forums I was already 109: slower than my peak when I was still in my 20s I managed 120 to 130 WPM.

Today however I feel my hands noticeable numb due to diabetes and given I'm on a laptop keyboard I just managed like 55 WPM in this test. On a proper keyboard and with a better test I can probably still crack 60 but it is kind of depressing to have extremely real comfirmation of nerve damage on my hands. At this rate I probably won't be able to type much more than a paragraph before it becomes an ordeal.

And that's on my laptop. Does anyone know of any ways to improve my speed? I would really like to see this be above 100.

That may be, but there is always room for improvement. My actual typing speed is much higher, and my actual error rate is also much (much) higher. I baked up and restarted a few words to prevent errors. I'm just looking for tips on how to prevent typing errors better.

Backing up and correcting errors is a valid method of doing the test. The test actually accounts for that, since when you backup and correct, you're taking longer, which brings down your WPM slightly (Though usually not as much as leaving an incorrect word).

Typing Lessons?

Ha, I wish, the first time I saw a computer in school I was in 10th grade :P

Before that I was perfectly happy just being in a classroom with windows that weren't broken so that rain couldn't get in:D

Fair enough lol. I would personally do some practicing at home then. Having to look at the keyboard when you type is.. well.... incredibly inconvenient!
