have a old p4 pc with 1gb ddr it works and runs linux what should i do with it

With an old pc I own, I use it for folding. Its been running for a couple of years now just folding. I'm just putting it to good use.

I tried that with a bunch of old hard drives. Any storage is good storage, lol. jk it was just an experiment,m but I never finished it.

i5 6600k and GTX 1070 but I play 1600-900. 1440p BABY!

i've got an old lenovo machine pulling NAS duty for me. It's nothing special, 8GB of DDR2 on a P4 E5800 running FreeNAS on RAIDz1 on 4 1TB WD Reds. the RAM was dirt cheap and I think it's maxed out (which is sad). serves as my PLEX media center too. does good I think.

I tried installing Lubuntu, kept saying it couldn't find a live file system.

Then I tried installing Lxde, and it never shows up.

Helppppp...?

Try installing debian. When you installed lxde did you enable/start the sevice?

I'm not sure.

However I did get Xfce working, and its brilliant. Thanks!

i5 6600k and GTX 1070 but I play 1600-900. 1440p BABY!

Still, don't put too much faith in my buying decisions. xD

Best advice i can give in this situation.

 

IF YOU FIND NO OTHER USE FOR IT...use it to answer all those "what if" questions you've had about computers before.

 

"What if I overclock the CPU with 3 volts?" "what if I click those virus links?" "what if I disconect the harddrive when the computer is on?"
