I was adding to the point you made that not all torrenting is illegal.

I didn't say it justified anything to it, only that it was similar.

oh ok.

for a second i thought you were mad about what i said so i was pretty confused :P its getting too late for me to think coherently

Its not really similiar especailly when you consider scale and how it was made sharable because it probably had to be cracked.

The days of using the same disc and key to play games over lan are over and were all going to have to get over it. :{

Just let the guy torrent stuff. He's your teacher. In the end he'll have to provide your grades.

Would be shitty if he started disliking you and started noticing the mistakes you make more.  ^_^

Part of being a grown up is knowing your place and what you can and can not bitch about.
So..

Grow up man.

Does anyone even use PCIe SSDs?

Games is still somewhat legal to download as long as you don't play with at illegal code or crack :P

That is exactly the point of it, why would you download a game when you have a perfectly good copy just laying around.

Broken discs, sure. but we all know that is not the only reason people pirate games.

There is more use for torrents than just illegal downloads

I don't think you even read what he said.

clearly displays all of his illegal downloads on his desktop.

And last time I checked it was "www.utorrent.com", "u" is the common substitute for "µ" and is used by the developers of utorrent themselves in countless ocasions including the actual domain. It's also the substitute in every single simulation program out there, from pspice to cadence.

Anyway, my suggestion is to wait till the year is over and then report your teacher. Someone like that shouldn't be teaching.

I prefer to download the complete World of Warcraft instead of installing each expansion disc by disc. Thankfully blizzard let's me do that already but if they didn't I would torrent it for sure.

I read what they wrote, I just don't care for it.

If it's not pornography or a detailed plan to kill a load of students that's displayed on his desktop, what's the big problem here?

@chimmychunger

Why interrupt the teacher to give a spiel about how bad piracy is? Is this not a bad role model to the rest of your fellow class-mates?

I'll give you a handy tip for when you're older and working (school is much friendlier than the real world) - Don't question the ethics of those in charge of you, it will only end up bad for you.

Respect his right to teach the class, learn what you're there to learn.

Teacher's aren't role models, they're employees that teach you a certified curriculum. At the end of the day, you're lucky if they give a hard boiled shit about your grades, they're only there to make money to sustain their lives outside of teaching.

If people asked their bosses to stop taking sickies to go fishing, stop doing cocaine before work, stop downloading pirate films on the company internet, or stop using the work car to drive interstate on the holidays, we'd all be out of a job and living off centrelink cheques, just learn your place in the classroom, learn what you gotta learn and as multiple people reinforced - grow up.

It's a harsh reality, but accepting it makes it much easier.

If you don't care then why are you posting?

The problem is that he's proudly affirming that he uses torrents for illegal downloads and consistently shows evidence to an entire class. He is being a terrible role-model. When a teacher suggest you download software illegally it should always be done in a way that does would not hold you liable for damages caused. That means you don't explicitly tell the students to download it and you sure as hell don't show them how to do it or that you do it. It's not good practise and it is certainly not OK.

And if your boss does something illegal that could hold your company liable then you sure as hell report it. It is not about ethics, it's about not fucking things up. But the teacher isn't even your boss, he's the taxpayer's client. If you hire a service and you find out they're doing something illegal then you sure as hell report it or use it as leverage.

I can't expect teachers to be good role models, but I sure as hell expect them not to be the exact opposite. That teacher is an idiot and should be fired for it.

My wife is a teacher. Teachers are no different than anyone else. Don't forget, teachers get paid shit. They will cut corner's to make ends meet like everyone else. Since you're so baller and pay for everything, why not buy your teacher their album, or movie of choice, once a month.

The problem is not about whether he should do it or not, it's about advertising it to the entire class.

Explain to me where the teacher suggests for others to use this software when you said "When a teacher suggest you download software illegally it..." If I were to run a red light, am I suggesting that everyone in my country disregard all red lights? No.

Many people keep files on their desktop, perhaps the English teacher isn't a tech genius?

In Australia not all teachers are 'taxpayer's clients.'

Lold hard when you suggested he use this as leverage, that's called blackmail, also illegal, rather, much more illegal than downloading a pirate film. Where's your moral compass now? Why are you advertising blackmail?

Filthy hypocrite.

The thing you fail to understand is, like I said, this is not about morality. I also never suggested for him to use it as leverage, I talked about an hypothetic scenario where you hire a service and they do something illegal, which like I said is not about morality or ethics but about about legally covering your ass. I never said the teacher suggested him to pirate any software either, I talked about it as a common scenario that I very much support as long as it is done properly.

The teacher isn't just "running a red light", he's taking evidence of him consistently running red lights and proudly showing it to his students. I couldn't care less what he does on his free time, his hobby could be murdering hookers for all I care as long as he keeps it to himself.

You should definitely focus more on learning how to read properly, it's actually a pretty good skill that you've shown you clearly don't have.

Legality can be far from black and white. Pirating can be seen in a similar light as alcohol/marijuana prohibition. If we all accepted what is right, legally, then women couldn't vote, alcohol would be illegal, slavery would be big business.

I'm sure he didn't mean to let everyone see his torrent client running on his monitor, but if he did, he was probably trying to show students how "hip" he is. That he is up with the times. Who knows what kid's are into these days, but somewhere inside, we all want to be young and cool again.

There is a famous saying about snitches. I suggest looking it up.

So he isn't a good role model (I'd say that's debatable), so what. He isn't obligated to be one.

If you don't approve of pirating, then don't do it. The end.

He doesn't have to be a good role model, he just can't commit crimes and then proudly display them to his students. What you believe in is completely irrelevant if it is against the law.

And that is why I still suggest reporting him, someone must filter out the idiots from the system.

Teachers here in australia get paid way more than they should. Their evan thinking of raising all teachers pay to 150k a year.

What do you think about this?

ok then he uses it to illegaly donwloads things off of it.

And this is not shitposing evan if it was its in the off topic section so it wouldnt matter

can i just say that i will never change, i will always tell and complain to everyone that illigally downloads stuff to stop it. It ruins all industry's

He and every teacher you've had before him, has failed you. Please find a competent English teacher before bitching on a forum.
