Ok so my english teacher always has utoret open and clearly displays all of his illegal downloads on his desktop. When i start to complain he said grow up. i dont think this is a very good role model for teenagers.

There is more use for torrents than just illegal downloads, I would prefer to call it one of the most effective file distribution formats ever created.

Its the other way around, people "steal" it because its so expensive and they cannot afford it. If they made it easily accessible and cheaper more people would buy it (see Netflix and Steam). Also keep in mind a download does not equal a lost sale.

If everyone bought stuff then it would be even more expensive because there would be no compelling reason for lower prices because of closed door economics and inelasticity. 

 

All the industry does is provide exposure, they can rot in hell for all I care. It has no impact on the economy whatsoever and is probably more of a brain tumor to the artist where removal would be death but it is still toxic. It is required due to it's existence but inherently poisonous.

 

Don't support the industry at all, don't buy any of your shit off iTunes especially. You download illegally, if you like it and become a fan then you either purchase content directly or through whichever venue gives them the highest return on the dollar, and you can buy merchandize or attend a concert if they're touring.

 

The artist shouldn't even be in it for the money anyway, that's the record company. Money is the reward and enabler, not the goal.  If all the artist wants is their money then I'll pirate everything they own, throw it in a seed box, and not feel the slightest bit of guilt.

It's the equivalent of borrowing a disc of a game from a friend downloading it to your computer and then playing it there. Someone had to pay for it somewhere along the line for it to be posted.
