Can a DDC Pump push enough for me?

Hi there,

 

I was wondering if my EK-DDC Pump will push enough to support a 360+240 rad + 2GPUs and CPU.

I am currently rockin' a 360 with the CPU (OC'd) on the pump and temps are awesome. But now I want to add 2 cards to the loop. And I wondered if that pump was enough? I always heard that the DDC pumps are quite good for that kind of pressure, is that true? Do I even need the additional 240? (I think so...)

The 140 fans to the left would be replaced with the 240 and the ugly kink near the CPU would get away then. The 980 would be replaced by some sweet 1080s with EK blocks :D

I think 1 DDC will be plenty and I'd definitely add the 240 rad unless you want to run very high speed fans (I highly doubt it)

 

A side note: I'd put a heatsink on that DDC if you haven't already.  They can get quite hot ^_^

Image doesn't work... Anyways... A ddc will totally be fine for all those components. You will definitely want a second rad (I'd highly recommend a 280 over a 240 if you can fit it. Overall 280s perform much closer to 360s than 240s). Your temps should be fine, but I will warn you, your cpu temps will be MUCH MUCH worse with two gpus in the same loop (I was holding mid 30s C in gaming with my 280 aio before swapping to my 420+280 Custom solution and my cpu gaming temps are closer to 70C). This is just due to heat soak from the gpus, but two 1080s are much more efficient than two 980tis so you will be fine with a 360+240, you might have to increase fan speeds a bit though.

depends on which DDC pump you are looking at.

the 12watt can has just enough flow for 2 waterblocks.

the 18watt easily can handle 3 waterblocks.

 

waterblocks are the restriction. small enough spaces cause restrictions and pretty much decide on pump usages. radiators and fittings are pretty much a non-issue.

you'll deffo need to add the 240 radiator to leverage the capacity/surface area for the added heat from the two GPUs.

woah.... I have a very hard time believing you went up over 30°c just because of your GPU's...

Unless your water-air delta was obscenely high (which I doubt it was with that much rad space) there is something else wrong with this picture.  My max CPU load temp only changes by 5°c when I put both my heavily OC'd 980s at 100% for over an hour.  Running both GPU's by themselves only raises my water temps by 5°c, so how could that raise the CPU temps by 30°c+?

I run two over clock overvolted 980tis... so yea... when they hit 60C that means the water is like 45C which is a 30C increase over ambient.  60C is totally fine after hours of gaming for gpus, but since that is linked to cpu as well it means things get very toasty on that side. Also I run my fans very slow whenever possible and steady state full gaming load is around 50% pwm.

 

Also I am running a non-delidded haswell-e cpu that is overclocked and overvolted and haswell-e cpus get much more heat saturated than the 4790k line does.

 

Here for example is just after a quick (30 min) multiplayer match of Battlefront... Sorry I don't have my screenshot settings set for origin right now so I had to do my standard thing which doesn't mesh well with fullscreen games. Anyways during the game I peaked at 73C and was generally holding 65-70C (almost constant 30% cpu load which for a haswell-e cpu is quite a huge sum in a game), gpu temps had not reached saturation yet but were about 60/55 when it ended (moving out of full-screen tanks load so you can see how hot the water was getting even under small load.

i found the 3.2 elite being 18w, but cannot decipher the 3.2MX.

420 28mm (can't do any thicker), 280 45mm, sp fans on the 280, af type fans on the 420 (it's low impedance but at some point I probably want to swap those out...)

 

0-400 rpm idle/non-gaming load (16-20 C water temp), up to ~700 rpm at full load once cpu heats up.

You got that pump with a water cooling kit from EK? If so, you're looking at a DDC 3.1. That pump won't cut it with 3 waterblocks in your loop.

The one in the link you provided is a pump/res combo with a DDC 3.2. The DDC 3.2 is an 18W pump. 

 

You will need to upgrade your pump when adding 2 GPU's and an extra radiator.

The MX in the 3.2MX only refers to a different pump top.  It's still the same 18w DDC 3.2

 

The DDC 3.1 we use in our L-series kit is the same we use in our Predator 240 and 360 AIO's. This pump is a 6w pump and has a weaker flow compared to the DDC 3.2

 

So to answer the original question, the 3.1 will technically handle 2 radiators and 3 blocks but will suffer from the weak flow. So I would think about upgrading your pump with that new setup.

Had my d5(I think) pushing 1 cup, 2 gpu's, ram block, 1 280 and 3 360 rads. Quite happy with it.

What size tubing are you using? Why not spend a bit more and get a d5?

Quite simply because of space constraints. And the DDC pump with the res at least looks nice when mounted. (See pic in first post)

You can do the same with a d5 if you're still trying to keep a res pump combo. The last pump you posted would require a separate res, unless that's what you're going for.

Well, that's why I asked if I can change the pump top on that one. I know that that works with other ones. But I'm not sure about it. I would really like an official answer from @EK Luc whether I can change the pump top on this pump and apply this heatsink.

As for the D5: It would probably get too tall :/

Yes you can switch the DDC 3.1 pump with a 3.2. You can use your current pump top for that.

The heatsink is also compatible with your pump top.
