thanks. $100 is kinda above my budget hopefully someone gives me a cheaper one.

Yeah, they are quite expensive in your area. I'd say the best bet is looking on eBay for a used one, or Amazon. I'm not sure if Craigslist is in Australia but that would also be good. Good luck bro :)

thanks, craigslist isn't in Australia but we have similar sorts of sites. I've heard bad things about second hand mechanical keyboards but if I could get a second hand one for cheap I'll probably jump at that.

That's how much cherry MX switches cost.

If you want to go cheap then look for some cheap chinese keyboard with fake cherry switches.

It's currently unavailable at Amazon US but the Qpad MK-50 Pro goes for around 76€ in germany for the blue switch variant (others are even cheaper). Maybe you can find it somewhere else at a decent price.

Btw, I totally understand the need for a second mechanical keyboard for work. I got used so much to my Cherry MX board (MX Reds) that I could barely type, let alone game on a substitute rubberdome keyboard when I had to let it dry after a minor spill.

Edit: Haha, yeah, almost forgot; there's also the Cherry MX-Board 3.0 for around 80$ on Amazon US. Not very fancy, all plastic, pretty bendable and I'd highly suggest buying a right angle Mini-USB cable along with it cause the connector of the provided cable is too long and has a too much leverage and will eventually break the mini USB plug. (I and many others had that issue and I needed to RMA it). With a smaller right angle connector I didn't run into that issue. The build quality overall is rather basic but what's great about it are the low profile keycaps which I find so much more pleasent to use. Also, it's the only one which use these out of the box as far as I know.

Cheers! (AUD)

You missed the time to buy. The AUD is pretty weak right now. I forget when, but a while back you could have got a Tesoro Durandal with MX Blues for like $50~70 AUD off ebay.au. Those are now going for upwards of $100 AUD on ebay.au.

You might try posting on whirlpool, tho the MK thread there is filled with DIY custom keyboard snobs that'll tell you no, keep your money and suffer another semester till you can afford a real keyboard.

I know I've seen Cougar with some keyboards around the $100~ mark at CPL and such, but any less than that is gonna have to be non Cherry switches.

HAHAHAHAHAHA I DIDN'T THINK OF THAT LMFAO

If you worry about that (for good reason) go for MX browns then. They have the tactile feedback without the clicky noise.

Here's a good reference of the current Cherry MX Keys so that you can decide for yourself: http://www.keyboardco.com/blog/index.php/2012/12/an-introduction-to-cherry-mx-mechanical-switches/

For completeness sake I'll mention the Cougar 450K which has its own hybrid mechanical switches. Appearently they aren't the quietest switches, either so be mindful of that:
