Yes! I realised the same. My Sapphire R7 250 went malfunctioned because of this cause. I have a hunch.

Dell delivered me a refurbished monitor instead a new one. The delivery man seemed almost like a hobo. I scolded him for handling the monitor so badly.

not sure where the review went to but there was some fudging of the vBIOS on the Asus Strix which will cause the temp target to either toggle between 65 to 75 degrees.

 

the correct temp target is 75.

 

iirc the Strix running stock fan profiles will cause the GPU temps to shoot up faster to 76 degrees. MSI will peak out at 73 under heavy load.

Powercolor Devil do peak out at 76 at max load but the triple fan design is keeping it in the 70+ degrees range

Ok so what's so horrible about the strix?

It's completely silent up to 54C and 75C is a safe temp, which you can always change if you don't like.

I bought an r9 280x from Asus when they first came out. The vram failed within a week. Sent it back for a replacement. The replacement failed in the same way. So I returned it and  bought an evga 780. I also bought a rogue swift from Asus which failed in 3 months. I got it replaced and seems to be working ok now. But yeah when it comes to Asus computer components so far they've had a 100% failure rate for me. And their support sucks so imo go with another manufacturer.

If this is how ASU(CK)S deals with American customers, then just think about the scenario with Indian people. Huge population and 1 in a 5 will go for the company I despise. The multinational companies just don't care about us. They come here to make money. Rapidly. The stupid government can't even learn from our neighbour China and encourage the manufacturers. The taxes already shoot the prices up to $65 extra on every GPU. What's $150 in the states, the same will be nearly $215-$220 in India (Europe also).

So I see people arguing over Sapphire VS Asus. This video settles it:

 

 

Basically, the Sapphire is configured for performance with higher temperatures and noise and the Asus under-performs because it's temperature target is lower than the Sapphire's. Both cards perform the same under the same settings.

I haven't had any problems with MSI's customer service. I even RMA'd a used 280x and got back a 390x a while ago. No questions asked.

 

But then again. Every single MSI card I've had has died somehow... Except my old GTX 970. I sold it. (Edit) And I sold the 390x, too.

The R9 390X Strix was a bad card, it ran hotter than both the Nitro and the MSI gaming cards.

Fellas, my nick name is Problem. Facing an issue again! Help me with this. Want to change the AM3+ cooler. The AMD stock cooler seemed stuck and so tight to open. Uhmmm. Is it opened or locked? Though, it does seem so. I am not getting it. What to do. Should I apply pressure? Asking my friends @PCGuy_5960, @RyGuy99, @Enderman to help me with their kind advise.

why do you want a strix cooler on a 460? - just get XFX with a passive heatsink

as a matter of fact, why do you want a 460? - if you're fine with a 460 then you'll probably be okay with an iGPU as well

My 280x matrix from 2012 has never had any hiccups and is still running fine today *touchwood*

the problem with 290 was that they used the heatsink design from nVidia cards which had a smaller die and a little offset

that caused Hawaii chips to not have a proper contact with the heatsink

 

the problem with ASUS is that they're now so big that

instead of thinking about "what can we do more to get more money"

they're thinking about "what can we do less to get the same money"
